Interesting!

Its the first I've heard of further allocation being available. Hopefully there's some truth in this and not some dealer BS to get a dipper out of you. Anyone else heard of increased numbers?

According to Colchester it's only going to dealers who have met certain criteria regarding sales of other cars and met targets. They are also frowning on any dealerships that have sold M2's to brokers or third parties that have subsequently sold them on for profits.

And a first year rate of £2000 yikes

When I picked mine up I had a conversation with the sales manager who said the head guy of BMW UK was to speak individually with the dealerships who had sold theirs on to such parties and he believed there would be fines.

Yes, sunroof's are the most pointless thing imaginable.

They cost more, add weight and complexity and who wants the sun shining uncomfortably on the top of their head when driving? It's not like a convertible where that seems OK, it's just plain odd in a fixed roof car.

Then when you get speed up they're noisy as hell. Not to mention crap falling in the car when driving under trees etc.

My last E63 AMG had one (for free) I opened it once in 2 years for about 2 minutes. Plus it's a pain cleaning all the green stuff that grows in the seals around the edges of the glass.

So that's a no from me wink

I'd NEVER buy a tin top (or carbon top) without a sunroof - and can't imagine that anyone would notice or care about the extra weight! Just ordered an M140i - with a sunroof - as couldn't wait for the M2. The reason I have not wanted an E92 M3 is for lack of sunroof... or an M4. The M140i is for winter and I have a Z4M for summer - roadster as the coupe isn't available with a sun roof...

Nope, first year rate for 185 g/km is £800, not £2000, with yearly VED of £450 per year for next 5 years because new price is greater than £40k. After that standard rate of £140 per year applies.

Great for those buying 2nd or 3rd hand at 6+ years old rolleyes

And they still have the bare faced cheek to lie trying to justify it on the basis of saving the planet...rather than it's a nice easy earner for HMG.

This has to be the biggest VED hike in decades in reality, as lets face it, £40k is hardly a threshold of car prices that means this affects only the super rich, so the amount of people that are effectively going to see their annual VED probably double is quite large, given that a lot of people probably change cars within 5 years as well, and aren't going to pay the standard rate at year 6. Has there ever been a doubling of VED, I suspect not.
Will be interesting to see what this does to new car sales in time.

Totally ridiculous. The government are obviously attempting to make up for the shortfalls they were finding from cars which they put into the 0 rated category themselves.

By classing a car that's £40k or above as luxury really makes no sense, lets face it that's hardly into the realms of cars that the super rich purchase. I for one am by no means rich, I've worked very hard to afford this car and the idea of giving the government another £800 purely in tax really pisses me off. It's not like were not one of the highest taxed countries in the world already!

This is a deal breaker for me. Despite ordering in April, my dealers have no real idea when my car will arrive - they are merely projecting March or April.

I was over the moon with the M2 when I ordered, but the new VED rates and the M240i seemed to have taken the icing off the cake. I'm not sure if I could justify the running costs if I have to pay the new VED rates, the car just doesn't seem special enough to me. Anyone else thinking the same?

Giger, the M240i is a faster, better version of the M235i... but its still no M2. And I'd hesitate to say (even once the market normalises) the M2s will hold their values better than the M235i/M240i, so the overall cost of ownership on the M2 should still be lower than (or maybe the same as) the M240i, even with the VED increase factored in.

I'm expecting delivery of one very soon, but actually an early 2017 delivery would now suit me better as something has just popped up for sale which I'd really like to own. Perhaps we should swap orders!

Just heard that my order has come forward a month to mid-October, that means it should arrive exactly a year to the day after I ordered it! frown If BMW start releasing a few more cars I might actually get mine in September and catch the last of the summer.

lol, maybe we should! Is your build locked in now?

I know the M2 will be better, but I want it to be much better than the next nearest thing. I don't mind the premium over the obvious competition of a Focus RS, but I want it to be significantly better than an M240i to justify the cost. I wouldn't buy a regular 2 series, they are too plain looking for me, but if the running costs increase due to VED then I may as well pay a few grand more for a Cayman!

It's been built and about to arrive. Grey with 3 pedals and all the trimmings... deliberated over the spec for months. Anywhere close to yours!?

To be honest, I highly doubt the dealers would play ball. If I do end up going ahead with the other car, I'll post here just before cancelling in case anyone wants to call them to secure it.
