I'd assumed M5's were limited to 155mph, but mine pulled all the way from 80mph to 168mph in 7th - on a local track - and kept on accelerating until I bottled it. Is this normal?

I've heard that 165mph was closer to the truth, but maybe not! Must've been a very long track....!?

On the way down to a certain race a few weeks ago I was being pursued by the paps in a DB9 but I managed to pull away by quite some margin much to their surprise (and the difference was far more than I expected)

I think my speedo must be broken because I noticed the limiter seemed non-existent smile

My E60 was limited to 155, but the limiter kicked in at an indicated 274km/h (=168 mph). Given the discrepancy in the speedo on both the E60 and F10 (my F10 was around 7% out at 70 mph vs a GPS reading), I think the "real" limited speed is close to 155, but indicated speed is 168.

My RS6 showed an indicated 180 on the autobahn recently, supposedly limited to 174 - and the GPS comparison on the motorway shows a lower discrepancy vs. the BMWs, given the speedos always overstate my guess is the limiters are all pretty accurate.

I heard if you reach 155mph in 6th gear you can over ride the limiter by going into the next gear?

Took mine to Germany recently and it topped out at just over 160 on the clock.

It is 168 on the speedo so about 160GPS.

The car has several limiters, the initial as above, a 2nd at 175 (may be a couple of mph difference as i can't recall exactly) as on the continent the car can be spec'd with a sudo performance pack which lifts the limiter, then theirs another limiter at 198/199mph which is hard coded onto the M-DCT & very difficult to crack as several levels of encryption & the final limiter is set at something daft like 225mph.
