Hi all, in my recent foray into deciding which performance car should be my first "real" performance car now that I'm 25 I've pretty much settled on an E90 M3.

I found a lovely saloon in Silverstone, it's got a Remus exhaust already and the one thing with it is for work I have to leave at 5am sometimes.

When they fired it up cold it was LOUD. Obnoxiously loud even, I can't seem to find any other cars on youtube that start so loud cold.

I know there's some magic jiggery pokery that makes the car run loud for about a minute to warm up the cats, but this is another level. I had to actually shout over the sound to talk to the bloke.

Is this normal, should I just deal with it and try to leave for work as late as possible etc? Or could there be something wrong- it's fully serviced and only done 50k. Everything else is perfect. Can I do anything to stop it running so loud cold?

Not 100% sure if it's a full system with x pipe etc tbh but it's definitely at least cat back.

It's normal on the V8 M3 if you have an aftermarket exhaust or have had the OEM exh mod done. My E60 M5 is very loud on cold start since the exh was modded. Mine is a toy and not used for work so no problem. If I was using it for work early on the morning it would have to be standard. Put the M3 exhaust back to standard and you will be fine on cold start.

It can be reprogrammed so it doesn't do the cold start stuff, but the exhaust will always make it fairly loud.

I do only have to leave at 5am once or twice a week, and the only reason I'm concerned is we've had an issue with one of our neighbours about her complaining to the police that she thinks we moved her wheelie bin... genuine nutcase.

Then again, it's a detached house on a main road so not exactly a quiet cul-de-sac and she used to fire up her TVR at 7am every Sunday, her bike every Saturday and dogs barking all night so don't think it's that bad.

Does anyone know approx how much the cold start delete costs and the best place to go, preferably on the south coast? I'll wait to see how the V8 sound goes down before shelling out on it, as I did really like the noise of it haha

Evolve can do it but they are near Luton. Put a thread up on M3 Cutters I'm sure you will find someone close by that can do it for you. I'm sure it's just a case of having a laptop and the software to delete the cold start, straightforward job. Don't forget the cold procedure is there for a reason though to warm up the cats quicker.

Try having an e39 M5 with a Hayward and Scott exhaust.

My E39 with Eisenmann Sport was much quieter than my E92 with the 2 pipe mod - cold start (which lasts around 1 minute) is really rather loud, and could imagine a Remus is as noisy as the 2 pipe mod.

As stated previously, it can be coded out if you regularly need to avoid annoying neighbours with early starts, but it sounds awesome!

I don't doubt that, the Hayward and Scott is ridiculous on a cold start though.

The e90/2 M3 with a Tubi is astoundingly loud on cold start up, overly so if you have neighbours, bloody incredible on the move once warm as well.
