Not this.

We looked at an Evoque and bought one. Boot whilst not massive is plenty big enough, swallows up our Travel system with plenty space to spare! In the M135i we had to remove the wheels from the chassis, take out the parcel shelf and it could just about get in - with space for several fag papers.

Also with the baby seat in the back of the M135i the front seats had to be pretty much as far forward as they could, which is a no go. In the evoque the front seats are in a good position with the baby seat in the back...

Im sure the 3 of us will be just fine in the evoque on days out, I see people in much smaller cars with babies...

Disco Sport - Dont need 7 seats, didnt drive as nice as the Evoque, interior low rent compared to Evoque, dont like it from the back.

Im in no rush to get the new car, more than happy to buy in the winter to save a bit of dosh. Will keep looking for now, maybe test drive a few models and then start my search for the right one.

996 - Im not a massive fan of the 996 in general, although I do love the 4S with the strip light across the back and the T front bumper. But its 20k for a good one...if I was looking to spend 20k+ I would be looking at all sorts of stuff.
You must have the Evoque XL wink - The wife wanted one but we tried and it was just tiny inside given the vehicle size, hence going X5 instead.

Agree with the Pork 2nd car option - just done that myself biggrin
We had a new X5 40d for a while and the Mrs didn't like it as it was so big, plus being in the middle of nowhere it hardly fit down half our lanes. So we wanted something which was bigger than our 3dr hatch, but not as lumpy as a RR sport/X5.

Plus we then decided to stick it through the business as a company car, so the evoque became a no brainer as the new engines coming out later in the year (paired with the lower list price) made it a very good option business wise (as the BIK is tuppence in comparison)

The original plan was the SQ5, but I couldn't make the numbers work. We were not prepared to spend £52-55k on an outgoing Q5 - or any midsize SUV in that case.

The Evoque might not be perfect, but its going to be much more practical than the 3dr M135i, its saving us money (which can be put towards another car for me) and the Mrs is happy....

I've had mine for about 2 months now and it's my daily. Ability wise it doesn't compare with the fun car either dynamically or with regards to performance but sure makes a fun daily with a great noise. The ride is a little bouncy, steering a bit woolly, brake pedal a little soft to be an out and out performance car.

The extended leather makes a huge difference to the "feel" and although mine has 29k miles it still has the odd Z4 creak from the interior.

Overall I'm glad I chose it over the 987 as it does give you plenty of smiles although without being breathtaking in how it delivers the performance.

I'm in the fortunate position of owning a s2k and a z4m coupe. Both similar but different. Well ones a coupe the other is a roadster ;-) Always loved the shape of the coupe and the bangle design looks better now than it did on launch, engine is a peach. My s2k was never going to be a keeper but it truly is a fantastic drive and I've had many good times with it. Will never sell either now.

That's a nice combo and the Z4M Coupe always seems to make my mouth water and I adore the shape yet strangely I never really liked the shape of my roadster much at all.

I wanted an Z4M Coupe badly to replace my 3.0si Coupe but couldn't afford one so went the roadster route instead. I absolutely LOVE it. Such a different experience to the 3.0 Z4's, it just makes me gurn - even the wife likes it!

I've just returned from a 1,500 mile trip to the south of France and that has reaffirmed to me how good the car is on a nice empty D road (it does help that the French road surfaces are smoother though!). We even managed to get 36 bottles of wine in on the way back after a week long trip...did cheat with the boot bag though.

I will say though that, she did just need an Inspection II service, new rear pads and discs and brake fluid change which cost the thick end of £1,200, so the M tax still applies.

For reference I bought mine last October as a BMW AUC. I paid just under £15k, car was at the time:
- 1 owner from new
- 43k miles
- 2008 car (one of the last)
- Decent spec: Sat Nav, Heated Seats, DSP, Wind deflector, Cruise, Bluetooth, Electric Memory Seats, Intravee

I would expect to not lose any cash on it selling it today, still sub 50k miles and with all large service items bang up to date.

Buy one...

Miln,

Nice photo and story there. Glad you enjoyed the journey.

Could I ask (sorry OP for the hijacking...) what colour your z4r is? Reason I ask, I had a 3.0i in a very unusual sparkling midnight blue, which to my eyes was the best colour apart from the Sepang bronze. Miss the car a lot.

Have you added some effects to the photo? Do you know what colour that is classed as.

Cheers.

I think anyone really looking for a Z4M needs to be jumping in quick especially the coupe,if you go by the way the Z3M's have gone ballistic in the last 18 months the 4's can't be far behind,I'd go for one my self but I'm slowly running out of space now and they never produced one in Dakar yellow....! grumpy

My Z4MC. I bought it a year ago. Compliments a Disco and an i3 which I guess is my 100k garage although I'd never thought of it like that and the i3 is a co. car. I had been looking for the right Z for years but had to wait until car and storage stars aligned, it's now 22k miles and I am deeply in love with it and planning to keep it until I'm rich and can flog it to buy an E9 CSL.

No effects added, but as you can see it was cloudy / dusky. She's Imola Blue to give her the official title.

It won't be Imola Blue as it doesn't exist. Imola Red is red, but the picture looks like Interlagos Blue.

Interlagos blue is brighter than that, I'd say that's Monaco blue.!

Apologies for a thread hijack, seems the right place to ask - where do folk feel Z4 M values are heading?

I've always fancied one of these and as is the way with such matters, I've been offered to purchase a nice example at (what I think) is a good price and the only way I can justify it is if over circa 6-12 months I can run it for near zero cost (fuel, insurance and engine-failure risk aside).

It is a 57 plate in Black Sapphire with Black/Silverstone interior, 61k miles, navigation, heated seats, folding mirrors, sun protection glass, recent Insp2 service, vanos and tyres, full history, 6 (!!) owners, could be mine at circa £15k.

My reservations are:

1) Too high mileage to 'stick out' from the rest when I come to sell... I would add about 5,000?
2) Would becoming the 8th owner put off possible buyers?
3) Will it underwhelm me? I hear they are great and the idea would be to get a splatter of my raw T350t fun in something 'usable' enough to drive daily (which the T350t, despite best efforts, is not)

Thoughts?

These usually have many owners as they are mostly used as a second/weekend car so it wouldn't put me off as long as the condition/history is in order.

I went from a Cerbera to a Z4M hoping it would have some TVR traits but they don't compare for me in any way but in isolation they are a cracking bit of kit for sure.

Noone's got a crystal ball but:

- Values on rare or M cars generally hold - the Z4M is both, and if you get to for a good price, the value will hold. I bought one last october and values certainly haven't dropped.
- High mileage cars are OK in principle if you know the provenance. For example, I picked up a 911 (996) recently on which I was the 8th owner and I felt fine, as a) the 7th owner cherished it, and before that, it had always been a high value car and had been looked after with full dealer history. As the Z hasn't yet fallen into the hands of people that can't afford to service it and skimp on maintenance (as e36 and e46 M3s have), I'd have thought high owners are fine - but it will affect values a bit. I'd always go for a low owner car if poss - My Z4M is a two owner car which I bought from Sytners as an AUC for £16750. I wouldn't have paid that for a 4 owner car, let alone an 8 owner car, but if the price and provenance is right, someone will bit (as I did with the 911)
- Most importantly, it won't underwhelm you. Even alongside my 911, the Z is a hoot - it's incredibly quick, raw, one of the all time great engines... it's compromised in a few ways - not as fluid as a boxster or 911 - but brilliant for what it is. I adore mine, and it never fails to thrill.

Owned a couple of S2000's - MY00 and MY06 which I have many fond memories of. The engines and gearbox are fantastic. However lack of torque and the poor insulation on the roof grated on me especially with the increase of motorway miles I was doing. I fitted the hardtop which improved things inside and also the look of the car IMO, however it needed adjusting every so often as rattles appeared. I sold my S2000 for £7k with 55k miles on and the Honda garage sold it on for £9k two months later.

Now I have a Z4MC which I have now put 30k miles on and I believe it to be a far better drive. Fuel economy is identical to the S2000 and also the tax. It is cheaper to insure though and its a lot more to my tastes inside. I have bought a 1 owner car with 16k miles on and have increased this to 46k Miles. I have never seen another in the Bronze colour and believe it to be a sound purchase with the residuals holding firm.

Lovely example, but have you not considered having a shorter/sports aerial put on? That wire would drive me nuts sticking out the body like that! Almost as the telescopic ones on the earlier (06 on) jag xkr

After poking and prodding various cars at Silverstone this weekend, I think the wife has decided on a Z4 as the replacement for her MR2. We also looked at S2000 (would need to be a facelift), Boxster (though she thinks Porches are a bit chavvy, which is why I couldn't have a 996 Turbo), and considered an MX5).

The car will live outside and be a daily, and mainly for short trips as she's only a couple of miles from work. She's not a particularly sporting driver (neither am I) and we prefer the coupe looks, but really not sure whether to go for the 3.0 or spend twice as much on the M model. Personally I reckon the 'M' will be a better bet financially, but they are few and far between to look at (I think the nearest I can find for sale is over 100 miles from us in Devon). I was tempted by the Alpina at Silverstone auction, but decided one 'left field' car was enough smile

We both have lower back problems, and I see the Z4s generally don't have adjustable lumbar support. If this is coupled with a particularly harsh ride on the M rather than the 3.0 then that might sway the difference. Alternatively I see the lumbar adjustment switch is blanked off on the seat, so is it feasible to do a seat swap from another model?

The Z4 ride is firm, but far less crashy than a Z4 with run-flats (I've owned both - a 2.5 and now an M). To be honest, the low position + ride are not ideal for any back issue, but if it's a bad back that wont be upset by that, you can't go far wrong with the M, very very fast and should hold value relatively well.
