So I ordered an M5 a couple of weeks ago and was expecting around a 14 week wait hence it would be on the new '65 plate. However the car is apparently now built and deliver will be around 20th July.
So the question is do I register it when it arrives and get it on '15 plate or store it at the dealers until September and register it on the new '65? The dealer reckons it won't make a difference to value in the future as the value it on the build month not the plate and the plan will be to exchange it for a new M5 when it's released.

No brainer for me - get hold of it ASAP for the summer months. When you swap will this one go back to the dealer I assume? If he's telling you it won't affect the value and they're taking it back, seems like no downside to taking it now. Perhaps some sort of written guarenteed future value would make it more concrete.

Thanks, there is a guaranteed future value. Of course I hope there will be more equity in the car to put towards another when i come to swap it in. Yes it will go back to the dealer. Perhaps the only upside to the newer plate is the snobbery factor!

I can't believe this question has been asked. Really.

You can't buy time.

If you care so much about having the 'newest' things rather than living life to the full then I feel sorry for you.

You could always wait for a 16 plate? No a 66 plate, ah but by then a new M5 might be coming out, better wait for that on a 17 plate, true but don't they give them a facelift? So better wait for that........

No question: take delivery now.

To fully appreciate the performance of the M5 you need bone dry tarmac. Enjoy the sunshine while it lasts.
