Evening All,

I am looking for a new toy a my wife has an X5 and in storage I have a late 1999 E36 Vert with 65K miles but that is really to bring out in 5-10 years time when I am older and its a classic smile

I have been looking around and I can't get the 1M out of my head as I have always liked them and then values just do not seem to budge.

I can understand the price as the reviews were great and the QTY is so small for a main stream production vehicle that it does point clearly towards 100K mile examples being worth a lot of money in say 15 years time so I really do understand the prices but does anyone see these staying the same or from a cost point of view is it a case of if I don't buy soon they will only increase slightly?

Also are they as good as the hype from people who have driven them or for the money is looking elsewhere in the M range a better bet? I was going to look at an M5 but can't bare the fact my £40K car will be worth £25K in the not too distant future, which I am hoping the 1m would avoid.

Thanks in advance and if anyone has experience of these cars it would be great to hear your views.

Lee

I've had mine for a few months now and absolutely bloody love it.

Who knows what'll happen to prices. Really low mileage cars seem to be slightly on the increase. High mileage cars seem to be sitting around a while. But I really can't see them generally losing much over the next couple of years. And maybe they'll rise... but I'm not banking on it.

It's not as polished and sophisticated a car as, say, the e92 M3 or the M5s. It's much more of a "grab it by the scruff of the neck" agile punchy little thing - not as raw as the CSL but it feels like it shares more in character with the CSL and Z4MC than it does with the bigger, later cars.

Go for it!

Had my 1M as a daily driver for little over 18 months now, coming from an e60 M5 it was a revelation.

Every single time you drive it, you will take the long way.

It is the first car I have owned that I can't ever imagine getting rid of, perhaps that is why the prices remain so rock solid.

I have just bought a 1M & picking it up next week. I have always admired them from a distance, one thing that stopped me buying one a few years ago was a manual gearbox, I have driven autos for years & getting lazy as I approach late fourties.

Over the past ten years I have bought, sold & lost an absolute fortune on Porsches, BMW's, Merc's etc & thought it was about time I put my sensible hat on so took the plunge. I nearly signed up to a 991 4s, 12 months old & thought, been there done that, 12 months time it's worth £20k less than what I paid (this never goes down well with the wife, I am surprised we are still married).

This is an every other weekend car that will do max 2-3k miles a year, I have decided to keep it totally standard, sit on it for may be 5 years & hopefully not lose too much if anything, 5 years down the line it will have low miles (circa 30k), it will have a full BMW history & only two owners me been the second. This is one car that will be professionally detailed twice a year to maintain it's looks.

I went to test drive it thinking I probably wouldn't buy it because of the manual but thought I would give it a go, "I LOVED IT", going through the gears gave me a right buzz. It's not the fastest car out there compared with newer technology but it was fun, I have never been this excited over a car in many years. As I get older I must admit to not caring any more about having the fastest this or the fastest that, I prefer rarity & something that other enthusiasts will appreciate. I did consider the new M3 saloon but then in 12 months time they will be so common on the roads, HOW OFTEN DO YOU SEE A 1M ON THE ROADS ???

I have not bought it purely for the future value but it has been a big consideration considering it will not get used much. I nearly bought a 996 GT2RS (blue wheels) a few years ago, they where around the £ 60-70k mark, look at the value of these now, £ 150-200K !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I don't know what is happening to some values.

Collecting mine Tuesday, it's been ready for the past week but not had time to collect it from the dealership.

Good luck with the search.

I've had my 1M for three years now. It's now up to 63000 miles. I use it daily for commuting and work duties. It has taken me all over Europe several times and everything else in between. I absolutely love it and cannot imagine anything else that would be so useable yet have such character and be so playful. Others are right when they say it makes every journey a pleasure, even after 60000 miles. The M2 will be interesting though I would be surprised if it has the character of the 1M. Enjoy it, you won't regret it!

Hey anomaly, glad to see there are at least 2 1M's being used as dailys in the UK! Just a quick question, how has your clutch wear been?

I am thinking the previous owner of my 1M might have been rather heavy on the clutch as I am starting to feel the signs of it being on its way out after 45k on mine.

Yeah, not many used as dailies. No signs of any clutch wear on mine yet, it is totally standard though and maybe I don't drive it too hard.
