I get that noise too (not CP car) .. its very addictive. Has to be on all sports plus settings with manual .. lovely
I think the key is to remain hard on it during the gear change. Given the outright power and the fact 2nd tops out at about 70 I'm often subconsciously easing off the accelerator slightly as I approach the redline.

Trying to remember now but I think I get it when I come off quick off the throttle after accelerating hard in second or are we talking a different sound!

700 miles into my journey through France to Italy.

biggrin

24mpg average speed 100kph including a spirited moment or two with a Z4 M wink

I like the fact the HUD is now Km/h (just found out how to do that.....duh!) and I love the fact I'm lucky enough to be driving an M5 yes

We're making the journey part of the holiday, away just over two weeks. The kids have their dvd's and iPads and are comfy as you like. The Mrs is pretty relaxed (aside from my one zip past the Z4M wink ) and its a great place to be yes

Sat in the queue waiting to go through the Mont Blanc tunnel as I write, 29 degrees and lovely.

It took me a bit of fiddling around to get the HUD units changed! Don't know why I bothered as I don't think i spent a moment on the continent sans polarised sunglasses!

The fart/blat/pop comes on a full load up change in S mode you don't have to be at the red line but need to have a positive right foot at the point of change.

And seems to be better if you're in comfort mode with gears at 3 and throttle at 3

For the record my journey was 1600km's and I averaged 26mpg with an average speed of 90kph.

Comfortable, spacious and a great way to drive through the continent.

To be fair a 520D would be pretty good I'm sure but the M5 package is brilliant.

I picked up my mothers new 420D M Sport for her yesterday and drove it back from Birmingham. I couldn't get out of quick enough to get back into my M5... It wasn't going anywhere in a hurry lol. Ok now the 520D M sport in terms of car space tech etc yes can be compared to the M5 to an extent. No way can you compare the feel of the drive or the whole experience between that and the M5 they are two different cars.

I know the feeling - I was lent a 420d convertible during my running in service. It had all the M performance CF trim and big alloys so looked good - the proverbial wolf in sheeps clothinh. Wife and daughters were all "yay - fun car - lets go out" whereas my reaction was rather more subdued. I can't believe anyone would buy that car in convertible form.

The tin top looks st on the 4 series and the old 3 series convertible (E9*) just looks awful. I too don't understand why you'd get a diesel convertible unless you're doing say 15K Miles a year or something and expressly wanted a convertible.

Have to say Id still personally have an RS5 over an M4 cab purely on the fact of what they look like with their roof up - that said saying this in the BMW section is a rather sacrilegious statement to make! :P

Noise aside, I think the 2.0d convertible is nasty because it feels so gutless - they weigh 1750kg

I think I could live with an M6 convertible though smile

Personally I think if you get a convertible you want to hear a half nice noise, not a noisy tractor engine the 2L tdis all seem to be rather noisy in comparison to the v6 3L diesels. (Not that Id want either in a convertible).

Friend has Just picked up an SL63 AMG, he contemplated an M6 convertible, but found it too 'wobbly', Look lovely in blue though.

Oddly he has changed from a DBS Volante (carbon edition), Now that makes a noise! biggrin (V12 FTW)
Personally I prefer the Aston but he's very pleased with the 63, also much more bang for your buck.

I've test drove an M5 the other day, was truly impressed with it, so much so ive placed an order for one. Didn't feel like a big car from the drivers seat, drove beautifully, and made a fantastic sound!
My only concern is that this was a car with the competition pack, mine won't have it as my budget won't stretch that far. I currently drive a C63, will I be majorly disappointed with the noise of the standard car?
Thanks for any advice, my car should be with me early September smile
