I've test drove an M5 the other day, was truly impressed with it, so much so ive placed an order for one. Didn't feel like a big car from the drivers seat, drove beautifully, and made a fantastic sound!
My only concern is that this was a car with the competition pack, mine won't have it as my budget won't stretch that far. I currently drive a C63, will I be majorly disappointed with the noise of the standard car?
Thanks for any advice, my car should be with me early September smile
I haven't driven a CP car but I'm sure as hell pleased with mine. What spec did you order?

I've ordered the following...

Black paint
Black extended leather
Heated steering wheel
Harmon kardon
Rear view camera
Surround view camera
Comfort access
Multi function sports seats
Folding rear seats
Sun protection glass and windscreen
Service pack

I haven't bought a new car since an x reg Impreza turbo, always bought used performance cars since that, but decided to treat myself, the discounts and other things made it easier smile

Ps I enquired about the official BMW sports exhaust that you get with the completion pack , and was quoted 6k, how an exhaust. It's 6k god knows, but I won't be buying one.
Does anyone have any better suggestions for aftermarket exhausts? I do like a bit of sound to be honest, but not 6k worth!

On our AMG's we go for Weistec or Rado configurations - I don't think they are MB specific so might be worth a look perhaps?

They have quoted you for M Performance exhaust, not the CP cars exhaust.

All after market exhausts for the M5 are expensive Eisenmann are £4000, Akrapovic/MP £6000 etc....

This is a very helpful thread (bar the minor trolling)

I'm considering swapping the atom and m135i for a M5 in the coming months ..

Impressed on the running costs tbh and love the idea of it being sedate when needed.

I also hear that there are some pretty good dam deals available for new ones??? I've not enquires personally as I have 45k budget tops, but am intrigued to know what figures could be done on a new one .. What kind of deposit would be needed on a deal for 5-600 per month??

BMW are offering 10k off one with £650 per month + 10k deposit, you can probably get 3-4k more off that as well.

Wire the exhaust flaps open. I used heavy duty cable ties. Read about it on Bimmerpost but didn't believe such a simple mod would make a noticeable difference.
I was wrong. Grunts, snarls and pops now. Definitely worth trying.

MPG around 21 over 27k miles. Services 1200 and 17000 miles. New tyres all round @25k miles. Kept checking the rears expecting them to have worn but they still had 2.5mm when changed. Surprising since I drive it like I stole it most days.

If you can afford it, treat yourself. You won't regret it. You're biggest problem will be what to get next after 18 months

I've had way way too many cars, I get bored and change every 6-12 months, but want to settle with one car for a while, as choosing and changing throws too much money down the drain. The M5 ticks every box smile

I asked my dealer about the exhaust mod, they stated that the exhaust wouldn't be warranties, and if anything else went wrong eg turbos blowing, engine probs and it could be attributed to the mod, bang hoes the warranty.
I don't understand why an exhaust costs upwards of 4k. I had a milltek in an rs6, it was nowhere near that. Best I get saving!

Personally I wouldn't start wiring up the flaps either, they open up at 3k rpm anyway, as for the cost of the exhausts the cheapest I've found is by AC Schnitzer @ £2700.

If you do go down the aftermarket exhaust route make sure the exhaust vacuum lines are sealed or you'll lose power, some like the MP/Akra have these just like the standard exhaust but many don't.

I have the M6 GC CP and wired open the exhaust valves with 3mm aluminum wire, sounds great NO warranty issues.
Cable ties will melt.

Is it a case of phoning around all the dealerships and playing them off each other??

I've only eve bought one brand new car but am now thinking I could bank a fair bit of cash and just do some sort of finance deal if prices are so good on the m5....

BMW should still be offering 0% (I stand corrected) which means even the most PH-finance-averse have no excuse not to just fking order one hehe

I have mine wired up too, dealer has absolutely no problem with it. Sounds way better, not offensive just better.

Does this mean it sound around town, as it does for circa 10 seconds on a cold start?

Similar but not quite as loud till you boot it.

As above, cold start is noisy but calms down after. Doesn't affect inside noise as they are so well insulated, open the sunroof or window and it's way better. Will find a video for you, might take a while as it was ages ago when I saw it.

Well if it was me, I would decide the spec I wanted then contact my local dealer/s and go in to discuss the deal.

Thanks

I really need to have a look at the specs
A nice sound system would be ticked but not sure what else if I'm honest as the spec will be great as standard I'm sure ...?
