This is my biggest fear! I spoke at length to them last week, they said they might cut the roof off! I said no way although having a brand new car with a filled and sprayed roof doesn't full me with joy but they are never the same once they have been taken apart.

It's not as bad as your wife's the estimate so far is £6-7k, if it's not right I'll think about chopping it in against a new one.

You're in a difficult position and I don't envy you!

Chopping the roof off isn't as bad as you may think, if it's like to X5 it's actually glued in place and not a massively difficult job to do or get right.

Our problem (IMO) stemmed from the fact the dealer did a poor job and the car was in the garage almost weekly with new faults as a result of being taken apart.

The last straw was the sunroof being taken out yet again only 3 weeks before our next French holiday and they dropped it on the floor........ yikes The discussions that took place once we found out the roof couldn't be repaired in time to go away and we were left with my smaller convertible car and 2 children made for an interesting tale, but it was sorted in the end.

The headlining was damaged after being removed and refitted 3 or 4 times, the phone and other items stopped working and paint literally flaked off the car due to a poor respray.

Saving grace was due to the fact it wasn't written off or categorised cat C or D and repaired by a BMW dealer we didn't lose any money due to the damage and repair when we traded it in. Sure we lost money but no more than expected.

The part-exing dealer wasn't even interested in the repair, they cleaned it and sold it on?

As I said and you've said, this type and level of damage is difficult to repair back to factory.

I'd not even consider getting it filled and resprayed, it will never be right (I had this done to a car back in about 1983, and it was never the same). A good dent man will be able to get ALL dents caused by hailstone damage out, it will take less time and cost less than filling and respraying. The number of people that can do this though is very limited and they are all very busy now due to the damage caused by that storm, the guy I normally use said he was booked up until the end of October. He has a special 'hailstone tent' that he's set up which shines light at exactly the right angle to show up every minute dent so it can be removed perfectly.

Absolutely agree yes

Two men and one week made an amazing difference to the panels that could be saved.

No sign of many dents left, those that were needed more than a dent magician wink

I had this dent on my A pillar, it was hit by something large that caused the dent but due to the protective film I have, no paint damage.

The steel used on the A pillars is high strength and more difficult to get a dent out of then most body panels. You can't get at the back of it either.

The dent guy used a 'reverse hammer' to pull it out, you first use special glue to attach a small lug

The blue tape is holding back the rolled up film.

The end result, you'd never know it happened.

They will pull the dents out where they can they have a dent guy working there due to the number of cars they have had in over the last 4 weeks.

You're right about the roof they need to be pulled or a new roof skin not filled, the bonnet and boot I'm fine with being new as they counted 150 dents in the bonnet, the windscreen has a 10 inch crack in it so that is being replaced and at least I know it will be a BMW screen.

Fingers crossed.

I'm sure it will be fine - I insisted on visiting the garage every other day or so with a brief chat with the technicians working on the car.

I wanted to let them get on with it but was advised to keep an eye on them and ensure it was being repaired properly.

I'm going to go in next week as I have some black gloss side grills coming from the US that I want them to swap with the chrome ones.

But your experience isn't filling me with hope!

Sorry I may have spoilt your Sunday evening frown

It was a stty period during the ownership of the lovely car we had - I'm convinced had a different dealer been involved then who knows?

Problem is it's a lot of work and it's got to be done the right way, first time.

Wills2, dare I ask where the car is going, you can PM if you don't want to post on the forum. I have had some experience of BMW approved body shops in Yorkshire.

OK, don't have any experience of them. At least is not one of the main ones in West Yorkshire where I had some work done, re-done, re-done again and then re-done elsewhere!

No, but it's possible they use the same body shop.

W8's car is not modified but if those stats came from DMS. A stage 2 map and Voila. I believe results of up to 750hp have been achieved. One look at those Vbox numbers and one can tell it's a savage animal. Only marginally behind an Aventador and that has 4WD. Quicker than an F12
