What's The F10 M5 Like To Live With Real-world ?

You sure about the +160 bhp over standard? Seems an awful lot more...
At least - if you read through the thread on lack of traction you'll notice that those with no issues run pre lci cars . QED , at least 160 bhp more on lci cars . These re-mappers are all a bit of a con - I am thinking of getting mine done thou to get it to pre-lci power and therefore better traction ( I can then claim to be a driving God who can balance the throttle to maximise traction ) . Apparent mpg gets worse after the remap to lower power but I'm not bothered .
Also sorry I forgot about the new grill on the lci's - it is matt to reduce laser detection

I'm not sure about the 700bhp, but I was chatting to the road test editor of a car magazine recently. He was asking me about my M5, and told me that he ran an F10 M5 as his long termer when it was first released in the UK. He said that didn't like the steering, however he drove another again last year and it was much better. He thought that there had been some significant changes since launch, and said that often happens during a cars life cycle.
Well it's gone now, or at least will be very soon.
Traded in against a rather different type of M from north of the border.
It's been fantastic, one of the best cars I have ever owned. Comfortable, discrete, great on board tech, and very very fast.
Growing up as a car obsessed kid and young chap in the eighties and nineties M5 is an iconic model designation. I always wanted one and I'm very pleased I've had one. I know there is a lot of "well this gen is better than that gen" talk goes on but I can't comment on that with any authority. What I can say is that in my experience the F10 is a fantastic car, highly recommended and definitely worthy of the name.

Go on tell us, what's the replacement? Traded in against a rather different type of M from north of the border.

OKay...
So after a lot of pfaffing about.... time to rekindle my love of all things rapid after selling my 911 turbo to buy a house, and thinking the M5 ticks the boxes, which means i can sell the boxster and ditch the A4 once the lease ends to go back to 1 car motoring (for now!)
With AUC cars now down to 30k, M5 looks stunning value (though realistically be more towards 33k for the right car), but on that, what are the MUST HAVE options?
The car looks rather well specced anyway, but i want to make sure i get the best car for my £ and not in a rush to buy so can take my time waiting for the right car.

I don't think there are any truly 'must have' options - completely standard cars are very generously specced by 5-series standards (merino leather, electric seats, sunroof, HUD, adaptive Xenons, pro nav) - and each owner will have their personal preferences.
Personally speaking, if I were buying another, I'd definitely make sure it had M multifunction seats and surround view, as my current car does.
Knowing BMW the standard stereo is probably not good, so I'd look for an upgrade on that, but I think most cars have the HK system because it wasn't a significant cost upgrade.

I would say the Multifunction front seats, split-fold rear seats and 20" wheels are the only MUST options, plus your personal preference of colour inside and out.Everything else is NICE to have, but those are the options on mine that I'd kick myself for not getting.
The multifunction seats are the absolute nuts. Split-fold rear seats worth a million bucks on that one moment you need to transport anything (like new tyres!) and the 20" wheels because otherwise it looks really under-wheeled.

I agree with that... didn't think the split folding rear seats would be useful .. I found out packing for Le Mans it would have been !Everything else is NICE to have, but those are the options on mine that I'd kick myself for not getting.

The multifunction seats do add more of a prestigious feel and look in the cabin, not entirely sure they will be more comfortable than the standard ones mind.
I feel the wheels need to be 20's but the traction /ride may be slightly compromised.
Other option I wish I ticked along with split folding rear seats would be comfort access.
As all have said the standard spec is awesome so you really can't go wrong.
Oh and it has to be Silverstone

Sleep soundly! I've got that, it's cool on occasion, but massively frustrating at times (like when you clean the car with your keys in your pocket and the damn doors keep locking & unlocking and the mirrors keep folding and unfolding!).Deffo 'nice' to have only.
If I was looking, I'd definitely try and get a car with full leather.
Having plastic on the dash, doors and cloth headlining is just unacceptable in a £70k car IMO. Quite a rare option though (as it was £5k+) and if you're also picky on exterior/interior colour combo you could be looking for a while!
