What's The F10 M5 Like To Live With Real-world ?
Discussion
You do sometimes see a truly fully loaded car, e.g.

It's not LCI, but then the changes were minor anyway.

Wow, that's quite a spec. By far the highest I've seen so far.http://www.autotrader.co.uk/classified/advert/2017...

A lot of people say the LCI improves the handling as well as being a bigger knob (ooer) and wheel?
edit: Mileage is a bit high if you want a few years of cheap warranty extensions too.

LOL! I can safely say that my M5 is the first car I've ever owned where I've never, ever, had cause to think: "You know what this needs? MORE POWER!"
In fact, one of the things I love most about it is that you have to be working hard and paying 100% attention to use a big chunk of the power it has as standard.

The map does change the car a lot, in the mid-range, in some ways makes it a little less dramatic as it suddenly starts pulling as hard in 4th as it did in 3rd, etc. so you just end up wafting more and revving it out less, such is the nature of 660lb.ft from virtually idle.

If I was looking, I'd definitely try and get a car with full leather.
Having plastic on the dash, doors and cloth headlining is just unacceptable in a £70k car IMO. Quite a rare option though (as it was £5k+) and if you're also picky on exterior/interior colour combo you could be looking for a while!
Its not like its a cheap plastic/headlining etc, not sure how many other 70k cars do have a leather clad dash and 200mph capabilities ? (and i presume not many paid much more than 60k plus options) to me at the discounted price no other car even comes close.Having plastic on the dash, doors and cloth headlining is just unacceptable in a £70k car IMO. I'm used to having the leather dash in my E60 M5 so would be nice to find an F10 with this option as well as all the other options I would like. I might be waiting a while though. Shaoxter have you still got your M5? I take it it has the full leather as well?

Porsches do. My current Cayenne and 997 have it as standard, as did my previous 996. They were all around £60-70k list price.cosworth330 said:

Yep it has full leather which is one of those things which you can't live without once you've had it! I've replaced the M5 with the aforementioned Cayenne though... although technically I still own it as it's on SOR Shaoxter said:

Didn't feel the SMG + town driving was suitable with a baby in the back, and I probably wouldn't be able to use the upper half of the rev range without snapping his neck!
The Cayenne GTS I replaced it with is obviously nowhere near as good to drive but still way better than a Rangie for example. Has a nice and obnoxious exhaust note too Strangely I can't stop myself looking for E61 M5s though

- Yes I know you can fit all the baby crap in an M5 but with a 4x4 you can just chuck everything in the back, don't need to fold up the pushchair etc.
I believe full leather is standard or part of a more or less mandatory package in the US market i.e. customers expect full leather and you won't find a car without it.
At least the standard leather in the M5 is of a much higher quality than the regular 5.
I could never justify the cost when ordering mine - money would have to be no object as there are other 'nice to have' things I'd rather put the money towards e.g. CP or a set of winters, although in hindsight I would spec the alcantara headlining for circa £800 as the standard material is pants.
I added the OEM carbon fibre interior which is a nice touch, but then I did buy a S/H immaculate set from a PHer rather than pay list price.

Sounds hilarious but absolutely the last thing my drivers' license needs Already have my first appointment with a magistrate getting lined up as we speak.
Clearly i wouldnt need more power - 600+ bhp is plenty! ... but my old 911 was an x50 and would hit 60 sub 4secs, so be nice to be in that territory again
Curious about this car though... and whether 700+bhp will see me using the bus for a yr thanks to the magistrates!
Not sure how i kept my licence clean with the 911 as sometimes i looked down at the speedo and was just stunned. 3 figures seemed to appear as if by magic, which unless you drive a quick capable car really does sound like the stupidest comment ever.

This is also part of the appeal - having a newer car with nice toys and a warranty
With the 911 every squeak made me think 'well thats prob 1k'.
When i sold my car to fund the house, the buyer had an inspection done and was happy with the car. Within 2 months he contacted me to see if i had cancelled my warranty direct warranty as he had taken the car to porsche for some bits and BOTH the turbos were on the way out!
Luckily i was lazy and hadnt cancelled the warranty so transferred it over to him.
Forgot that Ive had an F10 already! Had a 520d F10 when they first came out as a company car - this prob drives a bit better as that was an 11 plate and cornered really badly, still threw it round the 'ring though and forgot to remove the ring sticker when i handed it back to the fleet manager after 6 months when i changed jobs

Yes it's not the best for town driving or short journeys. I don't have those issues of baby gear anymore as mine are now teenagers. Ta very much!
So:
mulfi-function seats
split fold seats
sound upgrade
wheels (to taste!)
Surround view
That will be on the shopping list
Followed by a DMS remap once the warranty is over!
I'd suggest saving a little money & drop the Multi-Function seats as having tried both i found they didn't offer any additional comfort & in fact for more rapid drives (especially on track) the standard seats are more supportive, however the MF seats do look more substantial if their visual appeal is important & for over sized drivers perhaps would offer more comfort. So:

Surround View is 100& needed as the car's bigger than it feels so a must have as far as i'm concerned.
I didn't bother with Split fold seats, but never needed them so that's down to what you'd perhaps use the car for.
Defo the HK upgrade as it's genuinely a great sound system & would make you question spending £6k on the B&O.
Wheels is a good one, but i chose against the 20" option & am very glad i did as the consensus appears to be that traction is quite a bit better with the 19"s, the ride is slightly improved & of course the tyres are a little cheaper. Also the standard 19"s look very similar to the E39 M5 wheels so personally i think suit the car better & lastly most F10 M5's have the 20" wheels which kind of makes the 19" wheel look like the option wheel.
DMS upgrade FTW
