What's The F10 M5 Like To Live With Real-world ?
Discussion
Does anyone know the maximum mileage limit for the running in service on the M5? I have heard/read the running in service should be carried out by 1,200 miles but there is some tolerance and can be carried as late as 1,800 miles?
This has been prompted one, by seeing an M5 I really like but the running in service was carried out after 2,100 miles and then seeing a thread on running in services started today suggesting at least on the S54 a limit of 1,700 miles iirc.

I would give it a miss, BMW will not look with favor on that, BUT it may be worth checking with them first. If they honor it and it's still in warantee go for it.This has been prompted one, by seeing an M5 I really like but the running in service was carried out after 2,100 miles and then seeing a thread on running in services started today suggesting at least on the S54 a limit of 1,700 miles iirc.

Would check why it was done late... I had a similar situation... turns out the engine was replaced under warranty and hence why the running in service was done late. i walked
Someone destroyed an engine in the first 1000 miles?I would give that car a miss too, it's a bit like having a Cat D marker (OK not that bad), it's a cloud hanging over your head and you're going to have to explain it when you come to sell it. You might have issues with warranty claims too.

Even worse... engine was replaced with 200 miles on the clock...! and on top of that the running service was done late. Some people do themselves no favours. Real shame as the car was mint. Mine running service was done at 1754 miles (6 weeks old), this was due to a few long trips. BMW say it's not a problem and I've been able to extend the warranty with out issue (and claims have been paid out).
That's good to know but from what I have read you are OK if its still within their recommended mileage (under 1,800)I am 2 weeks into F10 M5 ownership.
My last 3 cars are a Porsche 996 C4 manual, BMW 640d and Golf R manual.
So, I went into M5 ownership with some high expectations and some auto worries.
Oh boy, it is more, bigger and better than I'd imagined.
I don't drive around with my trousers on fire as I did in the R.
I walk out to the M5 with the presence and sense of occasion I got in the 911.
The whole village knows when I go to work at 6.30am! It's ultrafast, ultra comfortable but fantastically noisy and fun when poked. That automatic box is amazing but the paddles make it a musical instrument!
I absolutely love the understated looks, q car status but super car performance.
Downside?
Just received my V5, my 13 plate 22k car is on its 5th owner!
Ave mpg so far 18.9mpg, traction control light flashed constantly- it's not cheap motoring. I completely understand why 4 previous owners have said goodbye!
If you want fast cheap thrills get an R.
If you want ultimate and can stomach the bills just get an M5 F10!

Running in service for me was 1200 miles. Dealer stressed was important to bring it back by this mileage for warranty. This was also what was shown on the service indicator btw. Not sure situation if you go over this. After this services about every 15,000 which I think is pretty good.

Couldn't have said it better myself! Congrats on the car and the mature attitude to ownership Don't forget to switch to MDM mode on the traction control. You'll have to be a little more careful (especially in the wet) but your rear brake pads will last 100,000 miles longer

Be very careful in the wet definitely, my mate nearly lost mine on a straight road in MDM mode. I wasn't in the car at the time and he came back looking like he'd seen a ghost he missed the kerb by centimeters.Don't forget to switch to MDM mode on the traction control. Other than that enjoy!

My sale has fallen through as the BMW Main Dealer said they could no longer offer the car I was interested in to me as it had the running in service done late. For this reason they say they cannot sell it as an AUC.cosworth330 said:

What one were you going to buy?I then got a call a couple days later to say that it transpired the car had its running in service done late and for that reason they couldn't sell it as an AUC.
I was also trying to negotiate a deal on a non CP Grigio Telesto coloured M5. Quite the stunning car but the main dealer wasn't really budging much on the price considering it will require all four tyres within the next 12 months and front discs and pads plus a service in 6k which could throw up other consumables not covered by the service pack. Other than that it was a lovely car but I think I am going to rule out non CP M5's unless they are specked to the hilt!
