The current A8 4.2 TDI is 380bhp so not sure where you got 440bhp from (is this a new model on the horizon?)
The other two you mentioned will be similar to the M5.
395bhp from the new G30 540d The other two you mentioned will be similar to the M5.
The old one was 375bhp and mapped to >440bhp so all else being equal tho will be a 460+ remapped unit with 4x4... a weapon.
Now the new G30 540d xdrive which happens to be 313bhp! so well off the 395bhp you say.
The M550d X drive that we never got over here last time, was 375bhp and the new one based on the G30 will now have 395bhp.
So, any cars circa 600hp cars you can suggest that are much better on mpg? nah, didn't think so!
313bhp is the 335d car & F10 535d car (actually isn't the last F10 535d 320bhp..?).
The current LHD F10 M550d is 375bhp.

I pick my F10 M5 up tomorrow. Any last minute tips?
Just one: Don't let the naysayers nickle-and-dime you about 'depreciation' and 'MPG' or 'running costs' or 'Dearler-Markup'. Accept the fact that you'll never justify it on any kind of economic basis and simply relish the fact you're allowed to enjoy a 4.4litre, 600Bhp car with 4 additional guests on the roads and motorways of this country. There's very few years left where a car like this will be allowed without some kind of battery pack, tracking, tagging or other nannying horse-st. Enjoy it while it lasts because in a few years time people will be thinking 'I wish I'd had one of those back in the day!'

Has anyone got a spare licence I could borrow just incase?
Stupendous performance for a 2 tonne car, a 30 min test drive really does not show off the true abilities of the M5. I'd say it would worry 99% of cars on the road in standard form, the in gear acceleration is phenomenal for overtaking, then you can drop back into comfort modes & waft along in near silence.
Then after 5 mins, get bored, put it back into M2 (full attack mode) & play with the gearbox & the exhaust crack as you thump through the gears, giggling like a little kid!

Good summary of the cars total split personality. I love the way that the gear changes get more and more punchy the harder you push on, but stay super smooth at low rpms. Has anyone got a spare licence I could borrow just incase?

I did about 100 miles of mixed driving (central London, motorway, B roads) in it last night and it's hilarious. 'Comfort' everything and Radio 4 on at 70mph is a very nice place to be. Then stick it in M2 mode and floor it and it goes sideways when you want to be going straight. Brilliant! It took a few minutes to get used to pulling away from a standstill without triggering the DSC too. I can see what people mean when they say DSC is on the entire time. Probably doesn't help that my car has PZeros fitted though.
PS It was reading 10.8MPG when I got to the M1 from Mayfair last night, ha.

Great to hear these cars are making positive first impressions on new owners. I'm 53k miles into mine now and the effect hasn't worn off at all - even more worrying is that the car just seems "normal" now.
I'm eager to try that evolve car and see how much better it is over ours...tomtom said:

One top tip is to use the 'tap mode' in crawling traffic. Rather than putting your foot on the accelerator to ease forward, just gently tap it and lift immediately off. The car then moves forward in a gentle and controlled crawl. Ideal for stop-start traffic or any careful manoeuvring you have to do.
