There's precious little in it in terms of spec - the only real differences are whether it's fitted with nav and the hard disc music system. And then of course there's colour - black, white or orange.

In terms of reliability, as far as I can tell there are no biggies. Probably worth keeping the warranty going though for peace of mind - mine is only £400ish a year for comprehensive cover with breakdown. Obviously, not a worry if buying AUC. ANd a lot of these would have been bought with the 5 year service pack, so will still be covered through to next year.

There are a few reports of clutches going on higher mileage cars. And some issues with fuel pumps. But they're pretty cheap to run all things considered.

Tyres and brakes aren't cheap, obviously.

Personally, I'd stick to a standard tune car. They're tuneable but I just don't think they need it.

The only other thing that springs to mind is exhaust modifications. They're prone to a bit of droning at motorway speeds, but there are solutions - the mid-pipe from the later 3 ltr turbo'd car or, if you want to go the whole hog, aftermarket solutions from the likes of Akrapovic.

I absolutely love mine. A really characterful, agile little car with bags of go and a great sound. It feels properly special - more so than the V8 M3s I've owned in the past.

Not sure if this is any use, but there's an orange one just about to be on sale at Munich Legends, a well thought of Indy from all I read.

I follow them on FB and just saw the notification this morning.

Incredible what hype can do. It wasn't that long ago when they first came out and everyone and their mother were slagging BMW off for building a parts bin special, even the tweaked N54 engine wasn't anything special as one usually expects of M division product.

Mine's just done 52000 and been trouble free so far (touch wood), a switch to Michelin Pilot Super Sport tyres was a definite benefit. The front seats are a little high even on the lowest setting but the replacement seats seemed a little pricey in my view.

Mine has never used a drop of oil but I have the oil changed every 10,000 miles though the service guidelines say 20,000 is fine.

I wouldn't bother with a remap myself as it seems plenty quick enough for me as a daily driver. I would recommend one if you can find one.

What utter nonsense.

A quick look at the launch reviews from Evo (there's a video by Henry Catchpole that's worth a watch), Autocar (Steve Sutcliffe's end of term comments are worth a read / watch) and Mr Clarkson (available through the Top Gear website) suggest something rather different. And Chris Harris named it his perfect one car solution in these very pages.

The N54 got a bit of grief for not being a normally asipated screamer, but it was simply heralding the shape of things to come and is, in fact, very well suited to the overall package IMHO.

Which bit of "1M prices are a by product of hype" sounds like nonsense to you bro? Every reviewer mentioned the parts bin special nature and the not so exciting nature of turbocharged N54 but of course they hyped it up like they usually do - M135i was in the beginning of its existence a godsend don't forget. If 1M wasn't limited run it would have never retained it's value and the hype would have been non existent.

You lost me at "bro".

But it's worth Googling "supply and demand".

No worries fam.

It's worth googling Dan Ariely's "Predictably Irrational". You'd enjoy reading that in your Trellick Tower penthouse.

Having just purchased a 1M I would say you won't be disappointed. I also have owned manly Porsche's, and still have a 996.2 GT3.

The 1M was always highly rated by the motoring press, its a very different car from the 135i coupe of the same year. I don't think BMW will make a car this raw again, and the low production numbers should keep prices high so no depreciation.
Best advice, drive one and see what you think.
