It also saves a stload of money. 18" winter tyres are not cheap. Well, neither are 17's but it's damage limitation.

The 17' winter tyres for the M135i are £79 each (Nokian WR D4). Bargain.

do people generally stick to the same size rim on a BMW for winter wheels?

got a 335x drive on 19s..

and have an M2 coming to replace it in April on 19s too

probably going for a package on Wheelbase- but 19 winters seem harder to source.

so was wondering about 18s.. on the 335 it would look ok, but the m2 im wondering if that would look pants?
I stayed with 19 inch on my old M6, even kept same tyre sizes so did not look odd.

in my experience they feel beneficial in the wet from about 4-5C and in the dry closer to freezing. The moment there's any real risk of ice/snow/slush they are significantly better.
+1 yes

The video of the 5.9degC RAC/Continental test, on page two of this thread, concluded winters' stopping distance in the wet was 20% shorter than summer tyres.

For the speed and load rating I require 17's are same price as 18's. I could go lover speed rating on 17's but that would be below VMAX and I wouldn't feel safe driving in Germany on those.

Anyone want a set of 20" winter wheels with 7/8mm tread on Michelin Alpin PA4's, they won't go on my M3 from the M5 and M6 I had, only covered 3000 miles.

Hi John,

The sizes on my M5 are 265/35/20 front and 295/30/20 rear. Will your wheels fit straight on or would some adjustments be required?

Cheers,
Mark.

While we are it I have a set of 75% 19" winter tyres I would swap for a summer set of tyres that will safely pass an MOT provided the swapper pays for the fitting. Our car goes off lease soon so an opportunity for someone. We live near Aberdeen.

I still have a set of new 19 inch winter tyres for the V10 M5 or M6. These have never been fitted. Size is identical to summer tyres so there is no speedo or appearance concern.
