Taking delivery in two weeks. It's like the lead up to Christmas. I can't wait!

Meanwhile I'm wondering what other owners are doing about transporting bikes around?

I just take the front wheel off the bike, fold down the seats, and bung it in the back (F80 M3) - no worries

With a carbon roof, you can't put roof bars on as there no bolts under the flaps, and I really would not like a rear boot rack as the bootlid is glass fibre !

Bump.

I fancy a new M3 or M4. The trouble is Mrs BC and I both like to take our bikes so we really do need to use a roof rack to carry both.

Is this possible for either the 3 or 4?

Thanks in advance.

Why not get a tow bar fitted (one that has a ball that can be removed when not in use) and use a tow bar bike carrier?

Nothing to see when you're not carrying bikes, lower and easier to load and reduces the chance of damaging the roof.

Just a thought.

I thought towbars couldn't be fitted to these cars.

I have the BMW electric towbar fitted to my 335d. It works very well with the BMW bike carrier but unfortunately not available on the M cars. I might have to settle for a 340 M Sport or look at Jaguars.

I had the same query and now that I have bought an f80 m3 I have made a short video showing my bike going into the boot space of my car , so the answer is yes a bike can fit in the back of an f80 / f30 saloon but click the link if you want to see how tight it is so you can consider your own use….

Can't imagine it's too bad. My M2 takes a road bike or mountain bike in the boot with the back seats folded down.

I looked at M4s and m3s but wanted to be able to fit roof bars. The only option i was happy with would be a sunroof equipped car, because that retains the fixing points.

They can be fitted to a carbon roof'd car, but it means drilling through the carbon, which i wasn't happy with.

I didn't really want a sunroof and had a concern about the ease of resale as the carbon roof is one of the USPs of those models.

The M2 can take a roof rack no problem.
