I would second this. I paid £8.5k over 2 years ago for a >100k mile car because it was simply the best one I'd seen. I saw a £11k car with 65k miles that was significantly worse, with the first clue being mismatched rear tyres, one Bridgestone and one ditchfinder because they had picked up a puncture were selling the car soon. That was indicative of how the car had been cared for once I'd dug a little deeper. I'd seen some rubbish at £8.5k even back then. The £8.5k car had just had £2k spent on it and the guy was selling because his pregnant wife had suddenly decided the car wasn't safe enough and it had to go. As prices of the new one drop and the e90 drop the M3 will no doubt be on a high bubble at the moment. Soon the most expensive will be at 10k and others will be dropping to 5k.
A rise when the few good ones left become classics perhaps (10-20years time) but I think there will be quite a dip before that ever happens.

When I was looking for mine I only had two real stipulations : Not SMG and Not Silver.
I ended up buying a Silver SMG car because it was the 'right' car. After looking at loads from £6k to £10k there was so much variation that cars costnig £7k were MUCH better than cars costing £10k.
In the end I bought mine (even though it was the incorrect spec.) for £7k and it never skipped a beat.

Had it repaired last week and they found the two front mounting points were very bad, which BMW had not picked up on. But I think the subframe needs dropping to do check it properly.
Mine is done now so that is a weight off my mind (and a four figure sum off my bank balance
