My M5 is due to be retuned soon and is totally immaculate, not a wheel scuff or scratch in site. I'll be sorry to see it go.

My question is this, probably to anybody who has already their car back. When I start the car it is saying service required in 3600 miles. When I look in the onboard service schedule it seems that this figure relates to the rear brake pads as they are saying they require replacement in the same 3600 miles. The car will only do another 500 miles before it is collected, so it's possible that the reading then will be around 3000 miles for the service / rear brake pads. Do you think they need to be replaced before I hand the car back even though there will still be approx 3000 miles left or should they be done beforehand?

Does anybody have experience of this? Thanks.

I would expect that as long as there isn't anything due immediately according to iDrive then they can't really moan at you. After all, 3,000 miles is quite a distance, it would take some people 6 months+ to complete that.

That would my thought as 3000 miles represents a quarter of my annual mileage allowance on the lease. However, I think some clarity form Alphabet is required as I don't want to be billed at their rates after the car has been returned.

The estimate for brake service is inaccurate in my experience. My wear indicator fell from about 5,000 miles to 1,400 miles very quickly and then sat at that level for at least another 5,000 miles.

At a recent service, they measured the pads as I mentioned this and they still had about 7mm of wear to go and the garage thought they would be good for at least a further 5,000 miles.

Back to your specific question, I can't see how the leasing company could require you to change something that under your normal usage should last for a further three months after the lease expires.

I'd see if there is anything in writing, but I wouldn't mention it, because at 3000 miles you surely won't even have the warning. If you mention it is always possible that some advisor interprets this as "needing doing" and that might confuse things.

I have a 3 series, but I'm assuming all BMWs still have this yellow triangle notification when things get close to replacement??

Update.

I took the gamble and checked with the lease company to avoid having a problem when the car is collected or when it received by them. They confirm that even though there is an advance warning saying that service is required in 3600 miles there is no need to do anything as the car will only do another 500 miles which will mean there is plenty of life left. That have also noted this on the collection notes and confirmed it in an email to me.

So It's all good.
