tuner wars ha

Will Evolve not have a new turbo setup on by then, which will be exciting!
That will be interesting, wish i could make Hypermax VI now but unfortunately i'll be completing a charity bike ride from London to Paris on the 21st May.

Good point as i believe (possibly could be hearsay) that the development car as well as a couple of Customer cars either have or soon will have aftermarket Turbo's so that could see 800bhp & 750+lbsft achievable, albeit the M-DCT would require a bit of attention as the clutches would struggle at those levels of torque.

IIRC the DCT box has its own limiter set to 199mph.

Just friendly banter...

No wars here!

Anyway, I'll need to man up for 180 plus, sweaty palms territory!

For me, 700+bhp remap will (more than) suffice, to be honest I'd be happy with 600 odd along with the speed limit removal and a more punchy delivery, but if 730 is on offer with just the stroke of a laptop key it would be rude not to wink

Going down the line of turbos / engine / exhaust / gearbox work etc. is a financial disaster area and the reason I avoided buying a GTR.

Slightly more than the stroke of a laptop key, but the point's correct & it's certainly worth it.

Totally agree regarding these big builds & it's not something i'd ever entertain on my daily driver. Our US compatriots are getting properly carried away with some seriously big builds. What's odd is they have up until now (i believe Evolve now or very soon will have a US Distributor) been stuck with restrictive tuning methods as have been forced into using Tuning Boxes & the like which are fairly generic. However they've got a far wider spread of Hardware upgrades than we do in the UK which is kind of weird. The cars (i know about) over say 800bhp appear to be having their clutches strengthened which makes sense & they've got several options when it comes to aftermarket turbos & intakes whereas in the UK we're somewhat limited.

In 2010 the US were getting a reliable 700+whp out of 335i's with single turbo kits. That was with all standard engine internals.

And only a 3 litre 6.

I would say 1000bhp will be easy from the S63

Wow, i wasn't aware of that. Standard internals? Even the GT-R boys need to start strengthening the engine & transmission once they reach 650lbsft. I'm a coward & only want safe gains so will stick where i am.

Even accepting these cars have very strong engines, he must have made significant changes/strengthening to the Drivetrain as the M-DCT would be on borrowed time at those levels.

US Car.

Burger Tuning : BMS JB4 with BCM (Boost Control Module) Only way to go higher than the ceiling boost limit of 22/23 psi that all ECU flash tunes are at.

Running 28 PSI peak boost (stock is 15 PSI peak boost iirc) (Competition Packs are running 17 PSI peak boost iirc)

Custom BPM ECU Flash tune run in conjunction with the above.

Pure Turbos Stage 1 Turbo (Inlet side mods only) Stage 2 will be out soon with outlet mods too allowing big boost all the way to the redline

BMS Intakes

Methanol Injection

Ice Tank

Uprated Dodson Clutch Packs

Recently upgraded driveshafts (1200 HP rated) (although he was running at the same power with stock ones and ran a 10.1 1/4 Mile. He has now run a 9.9s 1/4 Mile at 141 MPH)

AMS Catless Downpipes

RPi full exhaust system

Race and Pump fuel mix

Guy who developed it (the owner of the car) is not involved with tuning etc but simply pushed the boat out and still drives his kids to school in it.

Yep well he got the Dodson Clutch Pack upgrade (circa £2K). This is mandatory on a DCT car pushing more than 800 HP at the flywheel or circa 700 Wheel HP.

He also recently got uprated driveshafts (circa £1K) as he loves drag racing on drag radial tyres, but was running these power levels with stock driveshafts and launching it frequently on drag radials.

Seems like BMW did engineer quite a bit of wiggle room into the F10 M5 platform.

Wow, that's quite a committed build. Knew he'd have had to upgrade the clutches.

Has he done as many US owners do & pimped up the exterior with mucho Carbon etc.?
