Does it make a difference which M5 you start with? i.e. would a tuned stage 2 Comp. Pack or 30Jahre, or Lci get a better result than a 2012 non-Lci non Comp Pack.?
Not as far as i know as virtually all the F10 M5's DMS have tinkered with have made around 600bhp stock. Worth checking with them for absolute certainty though.

You're having yours done, Paul?

As stated above I'm really not sure I could do it. I've only had my car since March so I'll have to see how I get on throughout the winter, traction wise. It feels a handful enough as it is, and I've grown confident with it throughout what were relatively dry Spring and Summer seasons.

Resurrecting this one....

I'm looking to get my new M6 GC mapped by DMS. Anyone had their M5/M6 done since the last posts here? I'd spoken with Rob Young in late October and he offered £500 off straight away for the then new 730bhp tune. Interestingly he said they do it with ECUs out as going via the OBD port leaves traces that can easily be detected by BMW....

First time he said they have to open the ECUs. They will do it at home / work in 2-3 hours. The price includes unlimited unloads/reloads at your location in case of dealer-erase or before service or warranty work.

For later unloads/reloads the time is a few minuted as the ECU's don't need opening, just unplugging.

I'd get it done at work/home, I'm not bothered about a DYNO run with them, as Rob says it's a fixed map they don't do any tweaking on the dyno, it's just for customer satisfaction. I'm not driving all the way to Southampton when they'll come up for free to me. I live 20 minutes from Severn Valley Motorsport so I'll get a "independent" dyno run done there afterwards.

Are you looking at a Stage 1 or 2 tune? Reason i ask is for the Stage 2 (unless things have changed in the last 9 months) they do require the car at their premises to fine tune on the dyno, unless they've now got the code perfected to cover the differences between stock cars which can be significant.

Drop me a PM as i can get you a better deal?

Am also eager to get mine done may as well go stage 2.
But still debating weather DMS are worth the extra money over evolve... They charge 1995 that's without any haggling.

I'd be happy with DMS coming to my house to do it but as Paul says I thought a stage 2 would be a bit of fine fettling...?

Also don't DMS offer a warranty which explains the price hike..?

They have no option to take out the ECU as no one can tune the F10 M5 via the OBD port it's either piggy back module or remove the ECU x 2.

Thanks Paul.

Stage 2 really, I don't want to do hardware engine modes so if ST2 is still just a software mod then why not? I asked Rob 29/10/15 about the need for a Dyno and he said there was no need for rolling road as they have fixed the software changes on the dyno with their M5 which seemed fine to me.

This was for the 720bhp mod priced at £2500+VAT before discount, which implied stage 2 but it wasn't specifically mentioned as "stage 2".

PM on way...

Evolve want the car for 2 days and cannot do home-mapping which to me says they are taking the ECUs elsewhere to get them done.

DMS are the only people I know for sure who actually design and carry out the work themselves, and have a great rep of course.

I thought that was the likely scenario, but I have seen a post on here yesterday (can't find it now..) about someone going and watching the mapping been done via the ODB port of an F10.

I think they were talking about BW chiptune, who some folks rave about, but I wouldn't touch with a barge pole.

As above, they can fine tune lines of code once the initial tune is in place via the ODB port, but the initial tuning process is ECU's out & tuned on the bench. This is why the post above about doing it remotely surprised me, however if ROB has in fact perfected the tune on their development car then no reason why they couldn't now complete a Stage 2 remotely.

Perhaps Rob has now perfected the Stage 2 tune sufficiently that they can do this remotely. I'd still be choosing to go down there as after road testing or on the RR you may want minor alterations which they can code in. Rob/Tony would be able to lend you a car if needed. Note you'd likely get a slightly higher output than they're quoting & don't focus on the power as it's the torque uplift that turns these cars from being animals to monsters. The 720+bhp tune is indeed stage 2 as the Stage 1 is around 680bhp. IIRC the difference between Stage 1 & 2 as regards torque is closed to 100lbsft.

Below you'll see dyno plots which include Stage 1 & 2.

Surely if we can get 3 people the cost would come down further?

I'm only on 2500 miles so not sure it would be advised yet?

It would be a 700+ mile round trip for me so I would prefer the car to be done here...

Clutches will start to slip eventually in the US they replace them with uprated clutch packs.

It's been said the DCT box has a safe operating limit of 700nm (hence the Jahre 30 goes no higher) but who knows.

I'd be fairly confident Rob/Tony would accommodate a group buy. Drop me a line if this is likely & i'll see what i can do. I organised a group buy with DMS for B7 RS4's a few years ago.

They're running considerably more power/torque though. Many are North of 800bhp & 800lbsft at the crank. I'd say 750/700 is a very safe limit but much above that (certainly the torque) & you're going to be putting the clutches under some strain which is why both Evolve & DMS hang around at these levels for their Stage 2 tunes.

Isn't 700nm the stock torque output? Do you mean 700lbsft?

LOL - mines on 748 miles! Not even had its run in service yet.

I'm looking for about mid to late March to have it done, be on 2-3k by then and the sun will be shining... and as I'm only keeping the car for 3yrs, the sooner its done the better the equivalent £/m outlay.
