A new car should be a joyous thing – not something you are unhappy with from the start. If in doubt, kick it out.
I get what you're saying but I suppose the question is whether the OP has formed a bad feeling about the car which the multiple owner issue has exacerbated or whether he was delighted with the car until the V5 arrived? If it's the former I'd definitely say get rid but if it's the latter perhaps see how much he can squeeze out of the dealer and keep it? Ultimately a question only he can answer but if he has a bad vibe about the car he now has the opportunity to correct a purchasing mistake (and should take it if he still has doubts!).

Well in answer to many points raised. I have decided to keep the car and as part of the package I do have another years warranty on top of the existing year.
I was more than happy with the car before hand and although there are many M3's out there to choose from this one was exactly what I had been looking for with all the options too. I came to the conclusion that I would probably be returning it to prove a point and not necessarily getting what I really wanted.
Sorry to disappoint many of you!

Bearing in mind this is Pistonheads and not a consumer affairs site, do you have any pictures of the car and/or it's details?? It's always nice to see an owner happy with their car. That's what it's about.

FWIW, I think it's the right decision, as you're happy, life is often too short to worry about resale values of cars down the line.

Enjoy.

Good on you! Sounded like you'd found pretty much the car you wanted so if you've got over the disappointment of the multiple owner issue it seems like keeping it is the right thing to do!

Out of interest how much is another years warranty worth?

Depends on the mileage and if you pay monthly or yearly but worth about £800 for under 60k miles and £1700 a year if you go over 60k and want to keep it fully covered with no excess. Cost to the dealer is a bit less than cost to the public, think it was about £500 it cost them last time I wanted the second year added.

The dealer got away lightly if thats what you've agreed, extra years warranty is peanuts compared to the bath they'd have taken if you'd returned it. My car has been sitting at the dealers since I put it on sale or return prior to trading it at an agreed price. Its now got a sticker price of what I got in part ex two and a half months later. The car was owned by me from new, full BMW service history, and absolutely immaculate, Gtechniq and ventureshield from new, low mileage and a decent spec.

You'd probably have got free servicing as well as the warranty extension if you'd pushed.

Glad you got sorted anyway

He did say 'as part of the package' so assume he got more than just the warranty??

Absolutely! No chance I was going to take just an extended warranty. That was an extra I wanted.

Was the car from a Sytner dealer?

So what did you end up getting as recompense?

Compensation and extra warranty for lies is way above the kind of service you get from them.
Lies followed by a swift kick in the nads is far more likely.

My experience of Sytners is very positive. I bought my prior car, a pre-reg E90 M3 when my preferred dealer couldn't get hold of one.

But I have used Sytner for service for over 15 years as I have found them the best of the three local dealers I could use. My last visit to them - my car went in for a front pad change and expected bill of c£475 and came out with a bill for £53 because just a sensor had failed. They could easily have changed the pads and charged me the amount quoted.

Its a sad indictment that not being ripped off by your Sytner dealer counts as a recommendation.
Me I wouldn't trust them with my kids pocket money.

You obviously have a poor opinion of Sytner although you don't elaborate why.

I did not recommend Sytner, merely provided an alternative perspective to yours - and my reason is that over more than 15 years of using three local dealers, Sytner have been consistently the better dealer for service (not an isolated positive experience).

I have bought 8 cars from one other dealer compared to 1 from Sytner but my service experience with that dealer has always been disappointing.

Having worked in a franchised dealer I have some knowledge of how it all works...In my experience Sytner dealerships work on the principle of maximum profit for the least amount of honesty. When sales staff lie to your face it clearly demonstrates the underlying culture of that business.
As for service I use a dealership that has won after sales dealership of the year....I fully moved to them after they replaced an expensive part under warranty that a Sytner dealer insisted I pay for and they have yet to let me down.
