M5/M6 fault codes, throttle actuator, steering angle sensor?

Just had a phone call from BMW to confirm my M5 requires both throttle actuators. They said as its a large claim they have to get authorisation from Mondial first before they commence. They have to supply Mondial with service history so they can check it's been serviced correctly before authorising.

That all sounds quite routine. My service book has an empty stamp block for a vehicle check some years back when I forgot to bring the book with me. I have the receipt but just haven't been back to that particular dealer to get the book stamped. Monidal queried this on a claim but I supplied a copy of the receipt and they were fine with it. Fair play to them - they want to ensure I'm meeting my part of the deal.

That's a bit funny. They have to verify it was serviced correctly in order to acknowledge it wasn't designed correctly.

I've disassembled about 30-35 of these now and not once ever seen a car need them both at the exact same time, so that is odd. However, if warranty covers, let them.

I was actually quite pleased when they said it needs both at the same time as it will save another visit in the future. It's been at BMW since Thursday last week and they haven't contacted me to say it's not been authorised so would hope the claim has gone through ok, the service history is all BMW and upto date so shouldn't be a problem.

Will the car be any smoother with new throttle actuators per just the same?

I had the same issue on my 2005 M6.

Limp mode and fault code 2b15. I replaced the gears from http://www.rebuild.org.uk/.

They also offer a service where you can send them the units for refurbishment.,

It's good that you can get these units repaired a lot cheaper than BMW charge for new ones.

Got my car back on Tuesday , both actuators replaced at BMW dealer and Mondial picked up the cost plus I have a nil excess policy so paid nothing,very pleased.

Nice point! I am thinking of an 2009/2010 M6 and don't really know what to look out for before buying it. I would likely get it from a BMW dealer so should be Ok as regards warranty. However, if a nice one came up privately, I might be tempted

Back on topic. Does anyone have a failed throttle actuator they've replaced and don't need? I'm willing to buy the scrap part for £50 and get it rebuilt (electronics failure is ok as well as suspected gears).
