Ridiculous depreciation ??.....It's not 2010 anymore, they have actually held up surprisingly well and earlier cars should continue to do so. The prices between all 3 will be linked anyway.
For me, losing more than a grand on a car is ridiculous hehe e46 & Z4M's are going up, e92's are going down. e92's will continue to go down until they are 2 versions old, then they will start to rise again, that is the way of the M car.

I don't think it's quite that simple but I wish you well!

z4m with suspension will absolutely show the m3 the door..... it will look better and feel much more special doing it... Their is zero comparison if you don't need the extra space.
Another owner (though mine now gone) has nailed it for you here.

From my experience, ive found it to be along the lines of the following:

In the early 00's (when i bought my first 328i Sport), e30s had been going down for years (i nearly bought an M3 for £8k lol) and many muppets were ruining e30's (Alpina reps everywhere). But then the e46 came out and everyone moved onto the e36 as the prices plummeted. This resulted in e36 M318s everywhere!! As there were now less nice e30's available, the prices rose.

In the early 10's (when i bought my first e46), e36s had been going down for years (i nearly bought an M3 for £3k) and many muppets were ruining e36's (rust, hottuning coilovers & bits of Vanos everywhere). But then the e92 came out and everyone moved onto the e46 as the prices plummeted. This resulted in AC Schnitzer wheels & tinted windows everywhere!! As there were now less nice e36's available, the prices rose.

In 2015 (when i was looking to buy an e92), e46s had been going down for years (i sold my '03 Individual for £6k in 2012) and many muppets were ruining e46's (more tintz, st coilovers & CSL reps everywhere). But then the F80 came out and everyone moved onto the e92 as the prices plummeted. This resulted in 2 pipe mods, ebay carbon & M359 reps everywhere!! As there were now less nice e46's (with subframes not hanging out the bottom) available, the prices rose.

Might just be me thats noticed it, but a similar pattern seems to work with the 5 series as well, e39 M5's were peanuts, now the values are above the e60's in some cases.

Had both cars and you can't go wrong with either.... I had the z4mc in black with csl wheels and the widened side skirts and black grill....used to get so much attention... Also great seats and driving position, although it's starting to show its age now.... Great drive, needs focus when driving it hard, but always felt special when red lining… smile

I traded it in for a frozen silver edition e92 m3 with DCT.... This was an awesome car... Still very special with frozen paint and competition pack (wheels, lower, black pipes etc) and leaves the z4mc standing performance wise.... DCT and MDM, EDC etc and the extra power with that amazing handling (almost hot hatch like) is an unbeatable package....oh and did I mention a v8 that revs to 8500 revs smile

The e92 would be my choice with DCT and comp pack.

I've had an M4 and just got an f80 m3 since the e92 and I still miss that amazing v8.... Both cars are great and they certainly don't make cars like the z4mc anymore...

Will you be driving occasionally, and in a spirited manner?

If so the Z4M is great. A most frustrating car to drive either slow or smooth, but when pressing on it becomes brilliant.

The M3 will make a much more all-round car, and it has a V8 - which I don't think is better or worse than the glorious I6, but it's different.
