Hi. I'm thinking about buying a Z4M roadster. The car is for sale with a main dealer and is on the registration PX06PYT. It has previously been on the registration DSU992.

Does anyone know the car or one of the previous owners?

The dealership has apparently "lost" the service book so would like to try to learn a bit about the car's history if possible.

Any help would be appreciated!

I think that BMW themselves can provide the service history.

I'd suggest that you don't dither as it appears to be advertised at a very competitive price. Either someone else will buy it or the dealer will realise that he's not asking enough.

That's what I thought, agree on price.

Apparently the car was serviced previously at Douglas Park and the salesman said that they've been in touch with them, but all records lost in some system changeover?

Am sure it's fine, but just seemed a bit strange as I thought BMW logged service info centrally.

They'll issue an AUC warranty, which I guess means the service history must have been complete ?

If you think you might want to extend the AUC warranty after a year then I would recommend pushing BMW to provide a full service history. My reasoning is this - if you go to make a claim under the Mondial warranty they may well wish to see the service history and you could be caught between a rock and a hard place if you can't actually produce it. Saying that BMW told you it has one when you bought it as an AUC might not be enough. If in doubt call Mondial - I personally wouldn't take the dealer's verbal assurances.

Agreed. Am trying to piece it together and need to see how far I can get.

Get the last 6 (or7?) digits of the serial no and BMW will give you the service history they have.

Also a very good source of info is the Z4 owners' forum.

Always some good cars for sale on there, and also some info on ones to avoid.

If - as you say - it is from a main dealer the fact they've lost the book should be irrelevant as they can just get another one for you and get it stamped up. I'd make an offer subject to them giving you the history.

Which, as I'm sure you already know, would not be a good thing as that service is a pretty big deal with reminders being sent and a sticker on the inside of the windscreen informing of the need to get it done due to potential damage to all sorts of oily parts in engine and gearbox.

Potential for accelerated wear in engine and box plus difficulty in reselling means I'd need a confirmation of that service before proceeding.

Spoke to BMW... According to their systems, the first time it went to a main dealer was in 2010, so looking like no services in the first four years... rolleyes

So no service in first 4 years and no service book either... how could they get away with selling this as an AUC?!?

Agree. The cynical part of me wonders about the coincidence that the workshop of the dealer (who has serviced this car for 5ish years) has suddenly now lost the service book...

There are different ways you could look at it.
One way is:

BMW actually have it on the forecourt so in some ways you can say they must have checked it over a little to have it in a showroom.
Next it's going to hang around for a while due to these issues
However it has very very low millage.

If it was me and I really wanted a Z4M I would take a punt and offer them 4k off the price they want and tell them to through in 2 years warranty. Keep it for the two years and I am sure you will get back what you paid for it.

it's already alot cheaper than it should be for this miles anyway.... But some of the issues with the car point to this needing some digging, corroded brake pipes underneath that need replacing, new brakes needed, etc why does a 14k car need new brake pipes @ this mileage ??

my initial thought was a repo thats been sat around somewhere.

If you have nothing useful to say then go away. Its not a well looked after M car that a showroom would be happy to keep on their forecourt. It's one with many question marks on its history and maybe condition!
