Maybe people are having a dig because they're tired of people moaning about the dogs they've bought sight unseen, from 'nice people' who turn out maybe not so nice and come on here looking for sympathy and help after the fact?
dont worry i wont do that ......

My E61 M5 sounds just fine with the standard exhaust and I would only replace if they needed to be replaced.
yes i know that makes sense , but would you put standard back on or upgrade ? someone was selling a 2nd hand one on e bay called "boycen" or something , when i looked into it, it was what BMW put on them from new .....

Thanks for help & advice guys .....
Just to let you know got car, picked it up on probably worst day of the year. pissing down /gale force wind & 4 hour drive .
But that's the only bad news .... guy was great , outside car was mint( color very nice , better than picture & only 2 nd to a dark grey 650 i have seen !) wheels fantastic condition with minor minor age related marks, tyres excellent make /plenty of tread .. engine looked super clean & sounds sweet (i don't know a lot but its big & very clean !) service history all bmw on time , only thing being a bit picky is the car was his partners car in France for 2 years , so there are 2 stamps are in french (good as weather nicer so might have helped being out there!),he bought car back to sell as its right hand drive so don't sell well in France , it has 3 owners including the partner as he had to register some things back in uk before it could sell (so that added on the 3 rd owner on book which is a shame for 2 months ownership) new mot no advisory, inside like new , these cars either wear well or the people that sat in only weighed about 2 stone ! it is like a new car inside , normal extras (i am not sure what is normal but i will list some of the good things )hud , memory heated seats , adaptive lighting , soft close doors , carbon roof, tinted side windows .... not sure what leather as dash looks nice but think its plastic where i know some are all leather , quite nice though , its not got arm rest which a shame i do like , don't know what the roof lining is , but some have got Alcatraz or something , don't think mine has .
Thanks to guys who gave me settings for everything to get home as very complicated . The drive home was about as nice as a car could make of conditions and was lovely , suspension setting i forgot to put in so don't know what it was on but nice , not to firm but stable (Not a 911 i know , but no spine shattering either ) i played about with gears etc & struggled to get smooth changes all the time but OK , i was surprised that in auto mode it was not as bad as people had said , my wife could cope so that's all that matters .... Engine power nice , Christ it loves a rev.... didn't have m button pushed for longer than about 5 mins as not the day really but cant wait ..
always liked these cars but really is a perfect car for my needs, auto & manual/ 2+2 /boot for golf clubs ? fast / comfortable /looks nice/ luxurious ( fuel was 22 mpg but driven very carefully, but i have had yank muscle cars so don't mind 5 mpg )
so now we shall see how ownership goes ....
reading manuals/information as plenty to set up but didn't seem to bad , one funny thing in book , it states / to turn off select a drive gear then push start/stop button ? is this because there is no PARK position on shifter? what happens when you start , does it select neutral on its own when turned off ?)don't want to shoot through garage on 2 nd day ha ha ...
cant see the point of having gear speed button ? who would want slow changes ???
all in all lovely, is it worth going to good indy or stay with main stealer for work as car now over 8 years old & 60 k ?
don't think i could get a warranty now could i ?

Congrats. agree the weather was ste today, not the best day for a 500hp rwd car. 22mpg - very gingerly driven I assume as I've never got betrer than 18.5!

Just leave it in gear when you park. You have to put it into N when starting.

Glad the car is decent, enjoy it!

I would take it to a knowledgeable independent if you have one locally. I have known a few BMW dealers to be hypochondriacs and it isn't helpful when trying to sell.

I don't know about the M6 but the regular 6 series had Dakota leather and it is very hard wearing. Not as nice as the Nappa leather of the E46, but durable beyond belief.

yes leather is so good ..... It effects re-sale i know if you use indy compared to main , but i wonder if when getting on a bit it makes that much difference , as we all know good indy better than main sealer for sure , personnel touch, fair cost you can get any Herbert at main , i know some of my mates have worked at main dealers & i wouldn't let touch my skateboard ....

so they can last ? Think i just have to wait , bmw done check and said no issues with clutch and they said weird if dont last 80k?? . regarding gearbox , not too bad , wifes merc has paddles but still feels a bit strange , i actually preferred shifting on lever, ok with not on auto but tried to lift of as you shift but where no feel like manual gears was not doing it at right time so made things worse ha ha....

There was a guy who had a Lambo Gallardo on a fair few miles with only 5% clutch wear - I think they need care but can last.

Certain things will wear them very quick - holding it on a hill with the clutch for 30 seconds is probably more wear than two hours on the motorway.

yes i agree , i have a steep drive so was a bit of a struggle getting it smooth , looked liked a learner ...
A guy on here gave me some good advice that makes sense , when you pull away .. step on it, so it engages & goes , no slip ....

There's a whole section over on Supercars about prolonging clutch life. In the Gallardo I left it in Sports mode and when possible always pulled away with a definite press of the throttle. Tried to leave a bit of a gap in stationary traffic to allow this. Into neutral and coasted to a stop from 2nd. Feathering accelerator at low speed, leaving in gear at a standstill and reversing (esp uphill) would knock miles off the clutch.

so leaving it in gear at standstill is better than neutral ?

No I think he is saying leaving it in gear knackers it. Take it out of gear at a standstill.

Excellent advice.
I would also add that when parking, give the throttle a short stab and then use the brakes to control the speed rather than a constant light press on the pedal. Takes a bit of getting used to and make sure you don't crash when doing this!

Correct. When stationary for more than a few seconds always knock it into N if you haven't already coasted to a stop in N. Sitting in 1st with your foot on the brake for any lengthy period is a big no no.
