In the winter and until you get used to the car don't run it in MDM - you can get the tail out very easily in the salt slime currently on the local roads (am also in SE Hants). The last thing you want is to spoil the start of your V10 experience by clipping a kerb. Actually today's rain may have washed the salt off but start in S5, 400 bhp and non-MDM mode until you get comfortable with the power and feedback. They're big and heavy cars and the feedback is good but not great so once the pendulum starts to swing it will move a bit before you or MDM catches it.
ok thanks for heads up , bit of luck by Tuesday hot & sunny .........
is the traction control good on these?

no active seats on the E63 M6. They were a feature on the E60 M5 only.

EDC = electronic damping control; normal, comfort and sport modes.

Check clutch, flywheel, position sensor have been done.

Also

Throttle actuators
VANOS issues rectified.
Tyres have tread on them
Brakes have plenty life on the discs and pads (same shape pad as a 535D by the way).

Also make sure you're plenty of miles away from an oil service.

The above advice on "lift between shifts" is bang on.. I learned to just do a micro lift on upshift and it was a smooth as any other transmission of the time . The auto is not good. OK for drawing in traffic but if you accelerate hard it is very jerky indeed, so i really never used it when running hard. I had mine from new ( 2006) to 2012. One big ECU meltdown, covered under warranty, but otherwise was very reliable indeed and very comfortable.

OP - if you got put off a 997 by internet horror stories I don't know how you settled for an M6!!!

Seriously though, the car obviously isn't coming from BMW and I think the seller was winding you up with BMW's offer, it sounds silly high.

I would go through any non-AUC (APPROVED USED CAR - the BMW scheme) warranty with a fine toothed comb. You might find it has a stupid limit like £500 a claim, or doesn't cover important components going pop.
I don't mind things going wrong & high running costs or i would buy a golf , but my Porsche guy said a tip 3.8 4s with 45k on clock is a prime example/time/gearbox for there 5% chance of fail , £16 k to repair .... how would you feel knowing that can (and does 5% chance of £16 k bill for a gambling man is dodgy!) happen any time & no maintenance can stop it ...
dont mind a couple of grand here and there to be honest , i looked at all posts on here and m6 seem quite reliable , i understand gearbox is weak point but some guys on here get deals on parts / good indi and do the clutch for £1500 ..
I know i am bit lacking in checking things but i will post pics / spec on here to see if i got ok deal ...
he said its 3 owners / full bm service so not skimped on , he says everything is great,paint/wheels/tyres/inside/gearbox/engine, he didn't seem desperate to sell (as i offered less but he said no !) i think it will be nice,
what about my exhaust question ?? any ideas where /what to put on ??

thanks, so no active seats , weird on m5 but not 6 as basically same car ?
so edc just 3 settings , cool.
Tyre's & brakes nearly new , how would i know about other things ? he had a health check done perfect except some alram fault picked up that he had changed £300 ish but he said it didnt seem like anything wrong before ?
would bmw health check pick up them faults you mention ?
62K miles just checked is service due ?
also is mine a face lift model or not ? whats the difference if there is one between 06?

OP I am also not fond of dealers as I worked for a few and they were not what their reputation would have you think!

I don't think I would buy a car sight unseen though for that money and I do think you are paying strong money for the car. Still, it sounds good and I don't subscribe to the internet theory of every single car out there is a ticking time bomb. Only last week I saw a 991 GT3 not on fire.

The black bit on the roof is carbon fibre by the way! Please do your homework on these things.

SMG is totally different to DSG. I have driven plenty of brilliant double clutch boxes but SMG boxes can be like a learner on their first day!

OP regarding exhaust best bet is go on YouTube and have a listen - see which take your fancy. Just bear in mind the novelty may wear off if you intend to use the car for any long journeys, some systems can drone quite a bit.

thanks , is there not a common good priced one that is recommended ?
i do like them to sound nice, When i was looking for cars i see that these cars do over 100k miles with no major issues other than smg , wonder if anyone on here got one with 150 k on clock ?

Its hard to tell in picture to see but it looks like maybe glass or black , is this an option ?
how do you post pics on here and will put ad on ?
what do you think is the right price? was i long way over ? i looked at loads regarding miles/ bmw history/owners & seemed right to others on net, yes maybe not ideal color but at my budget not loads out there and to be honest i think the wierd colours are now best ... white/black/silver boring IMO, a nice dark grey nearly black would be nice if they done one , the bmw site was way way to expensive for me ?

Indianapolis red is a resale killer and will affect the value

There is a chap online who does an exhaust mod which people speak highly of and its cheap

Has it got warranty, had throttle actuators, smg pump, vanos, clutch and flywheel done? If not it could cost big to maintain.

Nice car but sounds like you paid a lot for it.

no sorry looks like big to maintain ...are these items that everybody keeps on about something that you do to maintain or just change anyway before more damage done ? surely if it has bmw health check these should be picked up ? Do i book in to bmw to get these items checked ?
is the guy called paul from m3 online or something ? the very first post said about him ? that sounds good , the stock exhaust is prob a good one as not a cheap car ..rather adapt then throw out anf get new ....
how much IYO should i have paid ?

regarding colour i like it so much, that when i see it advertised , I changed what car i was buying ha ha
weird that not popular, as my friend is a designer for car ads , when he pickd "launch colour" , which the red is , it has been researched to prove that this suits aesthetics of shape the best to sell... so in theory experts say its easily the best colour of a 6 series body-shape ..
what do they know ha ha

yes i know what you mean and i am a bit impulsive ! I was really after a 997 c4s ..... With regards great deal i think it was ok , but firm believer in you get what you pay for & wasnt cheap.... 2008 ,red , loads of extras i checked like extended leather, hud, soft close doors and loads more , dont really know whats missing as people list what it has rather than what is missing (which is a shame, be nice if people said fully loaded but no hud for instance !) 60 k miles fmbsh , 3 owners , black inside (what are must have extras & i will check ?), when the guy put in bmw for health check , came out perfect they offered to buy for £17k and i paid £17.5 k as the guy would rather a person get car than the steal-er....
I know bmw so always loved m cars whatever model, also have kids so need a 2+ 2 , also i like manual gears , wife likes auto to drive me home from pub, so good compromise.... really its perfect....only hope its good on fuel as i do 70k miles a year through work ha ha not really ..
cant wait to try it , have been told that gearbox bit over complicated but i will try it and see..
put pics on when i get car tuesday ....
fmbsh?

2008 should be LCI (facelift), you can tell from the LED strip tail lights. A very minor facelift.

No that's absolutely not the best bet. All those vids are with the car on WOT and give pretty much no indication what they're like day to day and what the drone is like. Best course of action is to hear the exhaust in person and have a ride in one, either that or be prepared to waste a bit of money on trial and error.

face lift ... rear led ,, what a "ucking joke , i paid extra for that ...
regarding exhaust mod , what didn't you like ? there is a company on e bay (cant think of name ) but if you search m6 exhaust price up to £1200 it will come up , thinking of getting either that or there s a used Borla system , there is a front section missing about 2 ft long which could be fabricated , its up for £360 2nd hand ...
