I had a 2 pipe mod done, don't like it.
regarding exhaust mod , what didn't you like ?I don't think £17.5 K is expensive for an 08 plate M6 with 62k miles.
With regard to items that wear out , most V10 M6/M5 have had clutch & flywheel by 60,000. Mine was replaced at 39,000.
Throttle actuators fail due to poor design, nylon cogs wear. They are about £800 each for the part from the dealers and their is 2 of them. If it's just the nylon cogs that are worn then aftermarket kits are available to repair them at a few hundred pounds.
Hope you enjoy it, they sound epic and when on a charge banging up through the the box, just awesome.
Down shifts they rev match so it blips up as you down shift. Which is quite nice.
Like others have said be careful with exhaust options as most are way too loud and it will get on your tits after a while. I had the 2 pipe mod done by Paul and although it sounded epic I had it returned to standard after 9 months as it was too much for everyday driving.

Paul seems to do a lot of exhaust no wonder you cant book him for a month ? did you change to other exhaust or just stock one ?
so you dont blip throttle like manual on downshifts it does it self ,cool ....

Maybe an air is mod might be more appealing to the OP? Some of the best sounding cars I have been in have had epic intake noise more than exhaust noise
i will have a listern as dont know about these, there is a boysen exhaust on e bay i have bid on 2nd hand , if not too much and i dont like i i can remove without wasting too much dough ..ian-163jt said:
no warranty , one of the guys said it could be good idea but car has 63k on clock so can i get it ? It has full bmw history ?
so is gearbox ok in 400 bhp mode but when you turn power up gets jerky ?
When I push the M button I have the shift level turned to max and use manual shift. Gets a bit jerky at low revs. Take it to 8000rpm and it slams your head back. Brilliant fun once you're ready for it so is gearbox ok in 400 bhp mode but when you turn power up gets jerky ?

how many different shift levels are there ? If you put in sttings like shift level etc , when you turn off to the stay where you left them or default/reset back to factory mode ?ian-163jt said:

5 levels of ferocity, plus a 6th level with Traction Control off. (never tried that one) You set your M button settings in idrive and it remembers them. Don't remember if it remembers your setting in non-M mode as I don't bother getting out of the lowest settingJust want to say - these are brilliant cars and I absolutely love mine. I was going to keep a winter hack, but loved the M6 so much I got depressed whenever I drove the hack so got rid of it.
Part of the reason I love it is that is is highly strung and demands respect and care. Like a proper supercar should. And part of the deal is that when they go wrong it is usually expensive, although a lot cheaper than running a Ferrari/Lambo/Aston etc.
It's all part of the experience and I wouldn't want it any other way

people keep saying how expensive they are.. but even though i did not look at car or check before i purchased which is silly i know ..
I have got a super car / cheapness to run comparing to the other marquees you mentioned / manual gears for me / auto for wife 2+ 2 seats / fairly new for my budget/ cracking v10 N/A/ good build quality ? and very economical on petrol ......
we shall see , sold my 996 porker so will try it ...
thanks for gearbox settings will have a play
In the first 2 years I owned mine it was 100% reliable with only issue being noisey sunroof seal which I renewed myself at a cost of £25 and the key fob range was poor so I renewed the diversity antenna myself £230 for the part. Had one puncture that required a new tyre. Servicing at BMW, the big oil service with SMG oil and diff oil change was about £760. Had a vibration on the front discs but had plenty of meat on them as they'd only done about 20,000 miles so I had a guy come to my house and skim them for £50 per disc, no vibration now. Also had the air con re gassed last year. A few weeks ago the throttle actuators were replaced under warranty which the dealer said was a £2000 job but I suspect it would be a lot cheaper elsewhere. Mine averages about 18mpg mostly short journeys, will do about 23 mpg on the motorway.
Mine is due brake fluid change, microfilters and MOT next month.
Did I read that your wife has a Golf GTI DSG ? My wife ordered a new 5 door Tornado red Golf GTI DSG with leather and panoramic sunroof last month. Should be ready end of March. She's never driven my M5 but that's because she's too worried what I might say if she curbs a wheel or whatever.

, ours was diesel gt version , great gearbox as long you don't park on hills , gears engage & dis-engage and gets very jerky , also the when at a junction in D , the car is not in gear , you see a gap , floor it but the gearbox takes about 2 secs to select , and sometimes with a bus coming at you its a long 2 secs.......sold it for a c class merc with normal slush auto that creeps along on own , smoother . maybe petrol gti better but try it ..the golf done about 50mpg driven hard , unbelievable really ..
Prices have firmed up, maybe even increased in the last few months? However they are still hard to shift.
Mine was a fully warrantied, new clutch, VANOS, SMG pump, throttle actuators and loads of other stuff had done, Silverstone II, excellent example (after all work had been done) and I struggled to sell mine for ages. In the end it went for £16750. It also had 6 months AUC warranty remaining too.
Awesome cars as long as they are fully fixed and miles away from any bills.

I looked at buying one of these and drove a good few used examples from 44k to the horrendous nightmare clocked 130k.
Important to call BMW UK CS, give them the reg and follow up the service history with the BMW main dealers quoted - they should be able to tell you when it had a clutch / flywheel. They will need one approx every 40-50k - a 70k car that hasnt had one or doesn't need one is a unicorn.
I also had a good long chat with Munich Legends in Sussex about them. 2008 will have the upgraded SMG pump so that's less of a worry. When it arrives get the engine pressure tested by an M sport garage. Check for jerkiness pulling off slowly in D, or even in first in S-something (sign the clutch needs replacing, but if replaced recently less to worry). Redline it in second a few times, check it doesn't drop into limp mode (the tech at Munich said that there were a number of pressure sensitive electrics in the engine management system that can go wrong and whilst not expensive require a full engine lift so labour-intensive) - however they will trip. If you can also redline it in third that would be better but anything higher and you'll be breaking many, many laws.
Best way to also look after the gearbox is to not slip the clutch gently in first. What I mean by this is (obviously, safety first) but try and engage the clutch plates firmly when you pull off rather than gently - give it a lump of foot rather than a very gentle pressure from a standstill and then ease - this will lengthen the life of the clutch by years. Obviously this is not a huge lump of foot as rear tyres aren't free, but look for positive engagement.
That said, I'm still looking at buying one (i actually think red looks pretty menacing with blacked out wheels), because nothing else I've tested seems to come quite as close to the sense of ludicrous pantomime theatre, whilst having close to 500l boot space and effortless comfort. Maybe a merc SL 500? Doesn't sound half as good as that v10 with an eisenmann exhaust.
