Never heard of that exhaust on e bay.

Eisenmann sport are good quality, probably over budget though. Eisenmann race will be way too loud. The cheapest new exhaust will be Hayward & Scott. A full delete of rear boxes will be too noisey. I put mine back to standard as the noise got on my nerves after a while.
ok shame about exhaust , when you purchase an exhaust is it the whole thing or just back boxes , i saw on e bay eisenman back boxes for about £1400 ? i will cancel my back box delete now .... i do like them too sound nice , the standard is way to quite for me ..i dont care if a get performance gain but i don't want a loss for the sake of noise ..

Hey Ian !

You are spending a lot of time on choosing exhaust systems on a car you haven't even seen yet.

You also do not seem to understand that they come with a Carbon Fibre roof. I point this out as it seems pretty clear that you have not done too much research into the car you have decided to purchase (E63 M6)....which in turn leads me to believe that there are quite a few points about the car that you are not really concentrating on. I appreciate there has been a health check by BMW and it has FBMWSH, but in my opinion that doesn't really mean too much until you get the car back home and inspect it yourself or via your trusty independent / dealer.

Why don't you look at the car when you get it on Tuesday, then drive it around for a couple of months, making sure it runs well and there are no mechanical works to be carried out and then start thinking about exhausts etc etc.

I really do hope you have bought a minter and wish you the best of luck with it......but please lets talk about exhausts after you have had it in your hands for a few months and you are happy its all well and good !

yes understand but i have done it on impulse so thats it ..... now just trying to find out some information even though its late , but thats how i roll !!!!! so the black /glass looking roof in pic is carbon fiber , is this standard or extra as i have option list & not mentioned ? i have not looked in detail at another m6 so don't know if they all have this same roof ?
Just because i buy things in the wrong way i dont get why so many having a dig ! The guy seemed good , it 3 owners (with the guy buying in off his work partner , it has bm history , he says its mint , some nice extras , 2008 , 62k miles it wasnt cheap /bargain ...someone paste a better deal and would be nice to see what i should have looked at !!
People on here say i paid too much but when i keep looking i cant see anything out there that is loads cheaper (if any) out there . so i have it now & i have heard M5 and thinks its wimpy sound for V10 , so i will change it whatever ,, If i have to pay for things on top again my fault.
I always get my cars this way , must be lucky .....
will go in exhaust place & see what they sell me ....
again what is the point of getting bm to inspect when the guy had it done before selling , there was an alarm fault , they changed something and that was it , surly i will be paying for same thing 2 weeks later ?
i hope i am lucky this time ha ha ..

You really need to pay closer attention - a fool and his money are soon parted and all that. There's the minor item of import duty of $492 that you overlooked.

And others have said - slow down. You're talking about mods on a car you've never seen, heard or driven.

My E61 M5 sounds just fine with the standard exhaust and I would only replace if they needed to be replaced.

I've bitten my respective tongue while reading this thread over the days but have to agree with M5 London. I'm all for impulse buying and hopefully you've done really well out of this and will love the car (I am a big fan of these) BUT ..... You have bought one of the most expensive and most complicated BMW's ever made without knowing it seems anything about it. The roof, gearbox, idrive, facelift, warranty issues ....... basically anything?
My hat is off to you for bravery.
For what it's worth, I think you've potentially got quite a reasonable deal and I like the red. You've basically currently bought a car that looks nice and goes quickly without knowing anything else about it.
Is this the definition of absolute Pistonhead!? Possibly! Fantastic but crazy!

Driving around in a car park at 1-2k rpm is not really representative of what it sounds like at 8k rpm! biggrin

Maybe people are having a dig because they're tired of people moaning about the dogs they've bought sight unseen, from 'nice people' who turn out maybe not so nice and come on here looking for sympathy and help after the fact?

hi , new to this as been on other forums but never a M one due to my other car fads .......
You know whet its like , looking on net browsing bored , next minute you click a button & hey presto ..... bought an 08 m6....
few questions as never been in one to be honest so when i collect next week would like an idea of settings to drive home ..
It looks nice in pics it the Indianapolis red , guy seemed really nice...

1/ first question is . i know people are bit biased to colour but is the red ok for re-sale ? most i looked at were black or silvery blue, it has black inside , have i made good choice as told wife and she said might like nicer when we see it , but i liked picture?

2/ i have been told that have a silly gearbox/ complicated setting button , can you set these so the ride is soft (as not someone that hammers round corners ) but gearbox settings slick as bit worried that being auto its sluggish, its got SNG gearbox.

3/ I looked on net & every car i get i always put a sports exhaust on, this being a v10 i will get something for sure , however i spent more on car than i wanted so limited budget now (hope nothing goes wrong, i do have slush fund for repair/ maintenance !!) but reading posts some people spend £4k on it !!! I don't think it will need more power as 500 bhp should be plenty , but do i buy a purpose made one from say "borla" and get fitted , or go to an exhaust specialist & get custom one made , ?? what are good exhaust i have £1500 budget , i don't mind 2nd hand if they come up for sale ? there is a borla one on e bay 2nd hand for about £360 (it has a bit missing but i could use one of my existing bits i suppose & weld ) which would be ok but i don't know what my part number is ?
I live in Portsmouth area so any good exhaust place that will help would be good , i had haywood & scott do my porker but long way , long life in Southampton didn't bother getting back ! Or i could buy one of shelf but not a lot of budget, so whats best exhaust i could buy for unde £2k or anyone had one made / cost & spec so i can do it ????
many thanks & get car next week so will post pics as long i can manage to drive it home ...........
I am sure you have seen this but just in case....

I think everything has been covered except the VANOS. Mine requires 4 solenoids to be replaced so try to get a diagnostic done at BMW to check if there are any fault codes present before buying the car. If you don't and a fault code is spotted later down the line BMW Warranty (if you get it) may not cover you. Also check for leaks around the oil cooler (it behind the front bumper).
Mine has just passed 60K miles and besides the above issues has been fine.
I've also had the exhaust modified and it now sounds like this... https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2VEvYplhbkA
Here's a photo too... (it's Sepang Bronze)

Wot he said, mostly.

Although red is not everyone's choice, you liked it so will someone else when it comes to move it on. I looked a these a lot last year before buying in July and the price you paid seems fair to me. I would check it over very carefully before handing over your cash and don't necessarily believe the computer in the car on things like brakes. I've just had new front disks, pads and rear pads even though the computer said there was 20K+ miles left. Bear in mind that the front discs are a little under £300 EACH and you'll appreciate the bills are large when it goes wrong. 6 weeks after buying mine (40K miles full BMWSH) a valve spring broke at a very modest motorway cruise and the final main dealer bill was c£7K. It was very firmly recommended to me by a good local BMW specialist to buy the Mondiale warranty so I only had to pay £100 of this. I think you can still get this if your car has a full BMWSH the cost will be slightly higher as it changes at 60K miles I believe hence lots of these are sold around this mileage. Could be £150 a month??

My advice would be to buy the warranty and delay your spend on exhaust it sounds pretty good up the busy end as standard IMHO and this is from someone who has had his Griffith decatted and equipped with a cherry bomb exhaust, I like noisesmile

The SMG gearbox is fine when you get used to it just don't expect it to be like a modern auto and drive it using the paddles or the tap to the knob as it were;)

I think it handles well, I find the chassis quite firm but I have just come from a 4x4 albeit a very car-like KN.

I really hope you have landed a good one, I'm sure you will love it, it does sound ratty started from cold so don't worry about a lot of racket until it warms up. Good luck and let us know how you get on and some pics please.
Cheers

Hope it turns out to be a good'un. I was after one of these with the amazing manual gearbox(I don't know if it is an amazing gearbox but I'm a manual fan and thereby classify it as such.) but sadly it was out of my price range. Got a stunning Z4M instead. smile

thanks , that is me ..... not everyone s cup of tea , but i laugh at people that worry & take 10 years to pick a car ... pay your money & take your chance.. if we done things to not waste money ,we would not buy cars and spend on propery...
Got car now & its lovely ,carbon roof , soft close doors , mint inside & out , could not find a mark on it rang bmw and they say car has had all service & correct , the only thing is never had clutch but bmw so they dont go before 80K ?? everyone says 40k?
ah well its nice .....
