Got an M4 and considering changing the exhaust to the BMW Performance one after hearing an M3 in the local showroom that had one.
Anyone had one fitted, was it worth it?

cheers

yes, I did the same heard one on a stock car at local dealership and had MPE fitted before I took delivery of my factory order.

Not cheap but well worth it in my opinion, I didn't pay RRP

Before you shell out 3 grand for a new exhaust I'd give this a try first:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=W6BTntWUOFM

This is the result, a massive improvement imo

I did it to mine on Saturday and it sounds so much better on a cold start and driving round at lower rev's.
Not sure the neighbours are best pleased though when I leave the house at half 7 every morning!

Isn't the valve mod just keeping the valves open like it does on the 'Sports Plus' mode? or does it do something different?

Don't do that, although it is free, the cold starts are pretty anti-social imho.

This is the ideal bit of kit http://www.cgprecision.com/cms/index.php/extension...

Easy to fit, took me 30minutes, attach the fob in your door pocket with some Velcro. Makes a huge difference and you have noise when you want and quiet when you don't.

Hi, are you happy enough with CG precision valve, had originally looked to fit MPE for delivery but waiting now to have a look around, the valve control seem like a good fix, does it have any issues with the cars management controls or does it just override the function with the fob, are they US purchase only, just ordered some parts from EAS and they have a Macht Schnell valve controller but more expensive.

Thanks
John

John

I was happy with it but it has stopped working for some reason, but cg will happily replace it, once I get it off the car...

It works in series with the actual OEM valve electronics, so when switched off, via the keyfob, it is factory standard, when switched on, the valves stay open all the time, until you shutdown and it reverts back to factory setting.

There is a big thread on bimmerpost if you google it.

I have MPE with carbon tips plus the CG Precision controller. Great combo. i can go from stealth mode to beast mode at the push of a button.

MPE with open flaps cold start sets nearby car alarms off - you dont want to do flap mod on an MPE permanently hence the controller. great fun but you need the option to return to OEM flap operation with MPE.

Thanks for both replies, my short term solution at delivery will be stock exhaust with CG controller and was thinking to fit a Milltek (non resonated) which the controller will work with, thanks to the OP for starting the thread, just need the car, due 1st of March!

BTW the MPE has an amazing sound!

Cheers
John

not quite. in sport and sport plus mode yes the flaps open but not all the time. they are closed on deceleration below a certain rev figure. i think 2500/3000 ish also when you are off the gas the close at low idle revs sometimes, seems a bit hit and miss, ive never quite worked out whats going on back there. with the valve mod or controller add on and permanently open flaps the difference you get is much more burble from the exhaust on deceleration and its loud all the time.
also if you give it some gas and let off at low speeds with open flaps you get an almighty pop/bang from the exhaust (on MPE you do anyway - probably the same but quieter on OEM exhaust). its an addictive sound and i spend a lot of my time making it bang as it puts a smile on your face over and over again.
I installed MPE on delivery so have not owned the car with standard exhaust. its sitting in my garage unused ready for re installation when i sell the car. and hopefully sell the MPE on second hand and reclaim some of the initial outlay for it.

explains it perfectly. Cheers Jimbooo.
Yes I love the pops from the exhaust when you come off the gas quickly - put they do seem to be adhoc when they happen which is a same.

Jimboo, on the manual, I seem to be able to get that bang/crack noise by flooring it to around 4000-4500rpm and sharply coming off the throttle.

You're right though the bang noise is like crack.

On my old 911 I took a fuse out (well not me, someone who actually knew what they were doing) and this had the result of opening the flaps permanently. System on the M4 sounds similar so would the same fuse trick work??

There is a vid on youtube of some american warming the car up so the flaps open then just pulling the plug out of the exhaust so they stay open

Just ordered the CG controller, i watched the you tube video and it works but leaves you with the issue if you want to close them, back under the car and reconnect, the valve switch will give you both options at the press of a button.

Same trick works on the Aston Martin Vantage too, quite a popular mod my ears tell me!
