Up to legal UK speeds I agree but watch all the videos and at higher speeds they are not as epic. I'd ignore one off the line but 80ish onwards in Germany and I'd expect to win!
I could certainly see that being the case North of 100.
More like north of 50mph.
I've tested a P85D which is pretty much the quickest car there is off the lights, but put your foot down at driving speeds and it's not as epic as my M5 (which doesn't have turbos!)

Anyway I would echo the advice of driving in MDM, it won't kill you!

The only one i've driven is the P90D (with ludicrous upgrade) & that's 2.8 to 62 & just over 6 secs to 100 with a 10.5 1/4mile so i think for that model you'd need to be North of 100mph for any stock M5 to start catching.

Tyres make a massive difference. Mine is currently running on P-Zeros. They are shocking on the M5. I'll be swapping back to PSS very soon.
This^!

I had P-Zeros on a courtesy M5 and was shocked at how awful they were compared to MPSSs.

MDM and feeding in the power or using a higher gear is fine for blitzing most things.

Isn't it far more fun to have to think about driving your car and how to modulate inputs for maximum effect?

RWD all the way, it's the only way!

Do you mean lack of traction or overzealous traction control?

I find you can make better / smoother progress in MDM mode, let the rear move little, it's quite safe and won't kill you at the first bend like the safety police will have you believe. A little wheel slip in a 2 ton car with that much power is inevitable but unfortunately the fully-on T/C won't allow any. It's so quick it will cut power before you have an inkling about any wheelslip, which in a way hides the true road conditions from you.

Those annoying throttle-cutting episodes pulling out of T junctions or mid overtake etc just stop happening in MDM and you can actually feel the engine doing what YOU ask of it.

Personally I pretty much always put MDM on and only leave it off on M ways etc.

I agree, I can make much easier progress in MDM mode. Its much like my old 92 TT6 supra, traction was either on or off. Was dangerous pulling out at junctions at it would cut it all! MDM seems to be the perfect balance in the F10.

Traction control kicks in far too much in this one compared to my old E61 M5!

This might be something to do with torque!

Weird, mine has P-zeros and I am surprised by how much grip they have got in cold/wet conditions - never had any problems providing I start rolling before taking off. I have even managed a WOT moment in the damp without any issues.

That is odd... Do you have the 19's?

An F10 M5 at WOT in the wet without any issues? I can't understand how that is possible at legal speeds (mine will spin the wheels at 70 in the dry at the current temperatures\salty road conditions).

It does of course hugely depend on the surface as well. From dodgy concrete motorways to shell-grip.

Mine's the same although i'm running on the MPSS. I'd be lying if i said the car never had traction issues, but only once have i been caught out & that was North of 80mph on a dry motorway, however even in the wet i still push on & only suffer with the obvious wiggle as the rears put the power down but it's totally expected & always under control.

Maybe I need to get the geo checked and a set of PSS fitted. Mine is a real handful!

I can't recall who told me this but you're advised to get the Geo fully checked at least once a year on these cars. I opted for twice, Spring & Autumn but that's due to track usage.

Interesting. Do you use a BMW dealer or a specialist to check\adjust the geo?

Does this M5 version use the BMW diff oil with extra friction modifier?
Too much of that crap can affect the function of the diff and cause traction problems.

A local specialist. Pretty sure the cost was £65 for a full laser geo check & adjust. My dealer wanted over £150 & they'd of course take the car off-site to a company like that which i use, so no point paying main £100 dealer Tax.

Thanks. I'll find a local specialist and see what they say.

Are winter tyres an option on the latest M5, for colder conditions?

I'm not sure BMW sub out their geo - last time I used them I was very impressed and sure it was done in house .
Ref traction - my traction control light flashes all the way through first and second on wot in the dry - I've only had it since Dec and typically low temps . All the youtube video I've see of M5 acceleration clearly shows the same . Are some people suggesting no traction light in lower gears ?
