Controversial M purchase....
Discussion
Just ordered one of these to replace my missus's RS4. Well, not quite....X6 M50D. Arrives late June. We always regret selling our ML63 AMG but it's a car that'll do 2k miles a month so the petrols are a bit silly. Wouldn't have a boggo ML diesel, just not powerful enough and the 50d engine has some impressive stats - nearly 400bhp and an urban mpg of 40 are impressive in such a big brick!
Similar spec to yours but instead of HUD I've gone for the dynamic suspension - it this that you get in the full fat M's (and the AMG ML that w liked so much) and it totally eradicates body roll. Eerily good.
She's chosen Carbon Black with the Ivory White interior It'll look tremendous but after the white interior of my M6 I vowed never again - it's so hard to look after. I'm desperately trying to talk her into going for the Cognac (tan) interior. I'm also in agreement with Wills that it needs Nappa, which we haven't currently spec'd so may have to upgrade to that too.
You NEED a cracking deal on these because they drop so much so quickly. I managed to get a truly ridiculous real from my dealer; think considerably more than the broker price mentioned in an earlier post.

Sounds great, lovely spec however I think I'd have sprung for the nappa leather as Dakota is a bit cheap for a car at this price level.
I agree but have to go without something to have something else!IMO a great choice.
I'll more than likely be ordering an X5 towards the end of the year. It'll be a 40d though as looking at prices, I'd need a pay rise.
All too often I'm finding the 4 series doesn't have enough room as I do a lot of shifting samples so I'm borrowing my old man's X5 40d - engine is plenty quick enough for my needs but I imagine the M50d is a pretty quick machine!
X5M must be mega.

Will you not miss the M5 a lot? Big saloons can still be fun when you just want to go for a blast but can't see the same with an X5.
I can't remember the last time I went for a blast in the M5, there's too many cameras and coppers around! Will I miss the M5, of course it's a brilliant car but for the moment I've got that out of my system (and I also have a dog who I want to be able to go on walks with!)
A few years ago I'd had enough too and traded my E60 M5 for a X5 3.0SD which at the time was the quickest diesel and absolutely hated it.
Now back in a F10 M5.
Slightly tongue in cheek, but from my experience I just missed being in an M5 even though they are way too quick for the mess that are our roads.
I'm sure the latest X is a far better than the previous model though.
Best of luck and health to drive.

I can see why you`ve gone for x5m50d, I went from m5 to the current RR Sport. Ok so it doesn`t thrill me but it`s a great all rounder family car
Love to know the deal you`re getting. PM if you like
I`ve just been emailed a deal on these on contract hire. £549 +VAT on a 9x23 profile. Still £20k over the term though

I had one for 5-6 weeks while I was awaiting for my replacement F10 M5 to be built. Was a cracking car & I can see the attraction. Only negatives I spotted were the build quality appeared suspect, however it was a BMW UK car so could have had a tough life over its first few thousand miles. Also the MPG was wildly adrift from the Mfctrs suggested figures. On a run I was only getting 5mpg more than the M5 so wasn't enough to make me think it was ground breaking, however the straight line speed induced many giggles & shocked many people.
That said, the brakes didn't match the straight line speed & it's cornering abilities were sadly lacking. Overall 6 1/2 out of 10 but if needed the extra room perhaps an 8 out of 10.
Agree with above that make sure it's debadged as X5M50D does look kind of funny.

So it could do with better rotors and pads? That said, the brakes didn't match the straight line speed & it's cornering abilities were sadly lacking. Overall 6 1/2 out of 10 but if needed the extra room perhaps an 8 out of 10.

Some news....
My dealer has agreed to match the Coast2Coast deal I sourced on the web and I'm going to order the car for delivery during October.
Great news! Chuck a fiver in an air ambulance collection tin if you're stuck for what to do with the saving :-) My dealer has agreed to match the Coast2Coast deal I sourced on the web and I'm going to order the car for delivery during October.

One quick question.
I've spec'd the multi-function instrument panel.
Has anyone actually had one and is it worth it?
Was going to get it but after trying thought very gimmicky and irritating... Much prefer the standard dials which are the same as the M5.I've spec'd the multi-function instrument panel.

Oh and the brakes are fine, just have to remember it weighs almost 2.3T. I never thought the M5 brakes up to much anyway and at least the X5's don't squeal all of the time like an old bus.

Forgot to add multifunction front seats a must, absolute different league of comfort imo. Same as M5 multifunction, but for some reason at a cheaper upgrade cost in the X5

The only upgrade for the 50d is comfort seats.
