I had a demo booked for Saturday at one oth the larger southern dealers having put down a deposit a while back. Get a call saying the cars been damaged so cancelling Saturday's appointment. I've called two more dealers and they're saying they have cars but won't entertain demos as they have a full order book.

Has anyone managed to get a demo this week in a southern UK dealer?

Full as in all the 2016 and 2017 build slots are taken (maybe) so no point in trying I guess. I reckon they want to sell their demo cars as new unregistered zero miles.....

I spoke to dealer in the southeast yesterday who said their demo was being registered today and would be available for test drives from Friday

Not really. If you can't sell any more cars for the next couple of year why risk damage, or at the very least put miles on the first car you have?

Then again, why have a demo if you're not going to demo it? scratchchin

Most dealers are looking to sell there launch cars to help get the orders moving. Obviously they don't want anyone driving a car they plan on selling

It's sold already.

I was in on Sat. Lols. Was told 2019 by them...... went down the road to lotus instead.

Sytner High Wycombe and Sunningdale have demos. They were more than happy to entertain test drives. I drove the car at Sunningdale a few days back and put a deposit down for an anticipated 2017 delivery. Not sure when because the dealers do not know what the allocation is for 2017. I think BMW need to pull their fingers out of you know where and get the production on these cars up to speed. They created the hype, people want the car, it is worth every penny if you ask me, and now it is time to make them and sell them - that is how you make money as a company. Probably the only M car they won't have to discount heavily out of the box.

I imagine BMW dealerships are currently receiving a high number of test pilots and time wasters passing through their doors, specifically interested in the M2. As such, I'm not overly surprised if some are less keen to offer test drives.

I wouldn't be averse to dealerships only offering test drives on cars like this to people who have a deposit placed. It's a car which has received unaminous admiration and high praise from testers who are more accomplished drivers than 99.9% of the population i.e. 40 year-old Bob from Surrey isn't going to get more out of the car than they can and expose faults they aren't able to. Aspects like a suitable seating position, visibility etc. can all be confirmed as okay for a potential driver without taking the car onto the road.

Dealers get extra margin for cars that are registered for demos...but they usually have to keep them for 3 months IIRC before they can sell them.
Its not unusual for dealers to register a demo car for target and then sell it unused 3 months later as a del miles pre reg car.

The idea that you have place a deposit before being able to demo drive a car is a bit mad...I was told this by Sytners of Coventry when I booked through the BMW.co.uk website for a demo drive of an E92 M3....Despite being a long time service customer of there's for my (3rd) E46 M3.

You'd think they would have the common sense to qualify me as an obvious prospect - but thats Sytner garages for you, a bunch of clowns. So I bought elsewhere and no longer use them for service either.

I've bought mine from Sytners of Coventry - I put my deposit down quite a few weeks ago though so the cars were not out then. Sytner in Tamworth (formerly Sutton) have a LBB 'demo' car but they have sold it for a premium on the condition that it sits in the showroom for a couple of months.

Still can't find one locally to test drive.

TBH I'm not surprised test drives are hard to come by - if you waited for a demo car to be come available before ordering then you may well be looking at 2018 delivery.

I'm pretty sure this is what Spec Cars in Tring have done with their demo car, I wasn't allowed to drive it as it's sold but won't be handed over to the owner until June.

2019......seriously.

Why would anyone be prepared to wait that long for a new M2. Madness.

Yip,

2019 was where their list was, but they *might* be able to get one end of 2018.

Early 2017 i was willing to wait, not 2018 and certainly not 2019. I assumed at that point i would get one from stock etc..... i was right, there are 5 up for sale on pistonheads today with immediate delivery.

Exactly. Someone hasn't really thought this situation through, have they?

BMW are no different to Rolex in this situation- they have huge demand for the new Daytona yet choose to supply each Rolex AD with 2 pieces every 6 months.
They do this crap for brand prestige......or something

I've driven one and I can confirm that it's nothing special.
It looks nice in the launch colour LLB.
The interior is a massive let down, very poor seats, very cheap low rent interior.
With this being a product from BMW's M divison it really is poor form.
For me a massive let down, down believe all the hype.
It's predecessor the BMW 1M was in my opinion a much better car.
