Hi guys,

I've had my M5 for nearly a year now since brand new. Now I have been driving a 535d m sport Xdrive for the last couple of days as my wife was given one as a courtesy car.

Now I must say boy was I surprised to say no speed or power loss off the line or around the corners is an understatement this thing went like s T off a shovel.

Dare I say it was up there with my M5....

What's everyone's thoughts on the 535 Xdrive

I changed from a E39M5 to a 335xd. Interestingly it seemed like the natural successor.

I tried the F10 M5 and the E60 M5.

For traffic light GPs the 335 gets off the line very well. The 335 seems around the same size when you are driving than the E39 but smaller than the F10 and the E60. The E39 was the most difficult launch and quite tail happy when pressing on but lots of easy feedback and no obvious vices. The E60 was nice but I couldn't get on with the gearbox which made you look an idiot around town. The F10 was much nicer and I was sorely tempted

Anything further than a traffic light GP and all three of the M cars will go past however how much of that can you really do in this country now?

I drive back and forth to work with an mpg averaging 40 for the same sort of driving that left me at 16-25 in the E39. Off the line on average british driving conditions the 335 would be in the lead till the next traffic light. The beauty of the 335 is that it will put in a consistent performance with very little effort. The E39 could go faster in ideal conditions one start out of ten, and over 70 the E39 would always go faster.

All in all I don't really miss the E39, but do miss the gear lever. Trouble is you'll miss the gear lever in anything you get into now.

My brother has an F31 335xd and we both think its an absolutely bloody brilliant car.

Mapped to ~395bhp and with the suspension sorted it drives extremely well and has excellent standing start performance combined with 320d looks - it's something of a sleeper in this respect. It would trouble the M5 off the line especially in sub-optimal conditions. Above 60 the M5 would murder it (especially if that has been mapped too).

Would I swap my M5 for one - no chance. I'd happily order one for my wife though and wouldn't dislike driving it.

Off the line and around corners it just sticks to the road. A xdrive M5 in the works I've heard any more info on this?

One very annoying aspect of the X drive is that it sits higher than rear wheel drive versions.
Especially when comparing the two the X drive (IMHO) looks like its on stilts!

Will be interesting to see the next 535d X drive

Mod can you please change the title,

I got very excited for a second thinking that the M550xd M-Performance tri-turbo might have silently come to the UK if they're making F10s with xDrive

I have the 435D M sport Gran Coup Xdrive coming next week, it goes like stink and gives 40MPG, I just got out of the M6 GC Comp Pack and LCI M3, don't miss either of them.
Off the line this 435D is mental.

335D faster than everything else. Again. Nice to know that with all the global upheaval over the last few years some things remain a constant. The circle of life.

Thanks. Don't think I'd want it any lower. The splitter on the front is quite close to the bumps as it is. Completely standard adaptive suspension on 20" tyres

It now has a dusting of snow !!!!!!!

That doesn't look too bad over the rear wheel but it sits pretty high over the front wheel looking at the photo.

It might "feel" similarly fast but it certainly isn't - though at 7/10ths it's certainly a brisk vehicle.

0-100mph in low 8's in the M5
0-100mph in low 11's in the 535d.

Both "fast" cars by any measure but one is only a fraction slower than an F40 whereas the other is nearly C5 RS6 fast.

After the M5 /M6 and M3 I think for my (old git) every day driving these days the 435D M Sport Gran Cuop XDrive will be all i need TBH.
I could never extend any of the "M" cars without fear of license loss.
