Really starting to think my next move will be down the ladder too, had my M5 for nearly two years and very rarely get the chance to stretch its legs. When I do I'm worried that Ive either been spotted, reported or caught on camera.

I've been very fortunate and have had quick cars all my life but really don't see the point anymore. Time for pipe and slippers maybe?

I see what you mean but to be honest the sound of the M5 and the presence it has on the road compared to a 535d is something else.

It is a car I'd love to own (or E63 SAMG or C6/7RS6) and the noise and looks are the best bits but ability to use it legally is slim. Ie you can only legally fully feel max power in 1st and 2nd gear, 3rd your well over 100mph.

A very true statement, this is WHY I am downgrading.
Ok I have had them all so can "look back" IF that could satisfy but in all honesty the money I have wasted on "high performance cars" runs into hundreds of thousands.
No more, enjoyed the ride though.
Too many Scamera Vans, speed traps and with the "rolling out" of Average speed Cameras it's power unused.

I really enjoyed my C5 RS6 and fondly look back but during ownership I was constantly worried about things breaking on it and knowing whatever it was would cost large sums, also the annoyance of filling up twice if not 3 times a week was a pain.

Recently the roads I use a lot M3/M4/A34/A404/M42/A303 etc I'm finding where previously is hardly seen any BIB parked up with cameras out or simply crushing at 55mph on the M way with another car a few miles in front of that under cover which would nip those who slowed then speeded up. Twice this year I've seen three cars pulled one an F12 who was totally on it from J13 to J12 M4 I tried to keep up in my car (to enjoy the singing v12 and deserted M Way) but called off and chilled to classic FM - I caught up with him at my 65mph with him on the hard shoulder police van nipped him.
Another was a 350 CDI Merc kissing my bumper so I pulled in let him pass then had some fun I saw last minute a BIB hidden in an unusual spot on the M4 brakes on to 60mph he didn't ... BIB pulled out and nipped him.
Another A34 to Southampton down a hill section I was in step trionic mode as had been stuck behind slow moving vehicles and was late for a meeting so cleared the traffic and was making very good progress, past an attic and just ahead noticed that for no apparent reason on a clear road brake lights of he car a long way in front came on I carried on at the making progress but then thought maybe BIB hard brakes on to 70mph to find a nice van with camera --- I was very worried I'd been nipped luckily 3-4 weeks have past now so think I'm clear.

Note I have no points nor have I ever, never been stopped either.

When I had my RS6 I have to admit I would probably daily see 120 accelerate up to and really enjoy it but if your caught it's game over & had I had it on the occasions above I know I'd have been much more committed and thus have a big problem.

Still - last night I was browsing the C6 RS6 Avants for sale......

Went from a 335d xdrive to an M5 313hp vs. 560hp that makes a bloody huge difference, the 335d quick to 40-50mph due to traction but after that the M5 is in quite another league.

As for cornering the M5 has higher levels of grip and poise the SE suspended xdrive wallows and flops its way into and out of a corner not a rewarding experience.

The RWD 535d doesn't have the on stilts looks and it's arguably flawed handling of X drive. But the E90 330d M sport had much better suspension over the F10 IMHO (maybe it's simply a bigger car impact)

The M5 doesn't really drive like a regular F10 - they really are different cars. The M5 suspension is different and lighter, the front track is wider, plus you have an M active differential and MPSS vs runflats, pneumatic instead of electric steering, and so on.
