You sure you're not thinking of gear oil? £60 a litre sounds too crazy, even for BMW M.
Perhaps it was £60 a bottle (of four or five litres whatever it was), in any case I recall it being markedly pricier than the equivalent 330 or Porsche stuff

Currently £35 for 5 litres from ECP. Halfords still charge £16 for a litre mind...

You can actually buy Castrol Edge 10W60 from Tescos, last i saw it £12 a Litre for top up bottles.

I would look at somewhere like: Opie oils for a larger orders, car needs 7L for full oil change.

Like I say, it USED to be markedly more expensive. Seems relatively easy to get now

Just been looking at the menu servicing of my local dealership and noted a remarkable disparity in the price of Inspection I between an E46 330ci and M3. They're doing exactly the same things, but while there is a difference in parts prices, it is no where near the all up price difference which is mind boggling.

Consider: 330ci - £249. M3 - £669

Inspection II is worse.

But then, they charge £63 pounds to change the micro filter...
£249.00 will be a discount 4+ price which will have a parts and labour discount off the full list.

4+ never included M Power cars but it doesn't mean you can't get a deal.
Cotswold in Cheltenhan, Glos and Hereford used to do their own M+ scheme.

And I doubt any dealer will actually do the tappets unless they are noisy.

I have been speaking to a few BMW owners and they have been moaning their cars are always having issues, small issues, but issues nonetheless. I am not sure if that's a fair representation of BMWs. I would hate to think M cars have a similar issue with endless small issues, I am sure the costs mount up.

What do folks think?

It's an expensive car (originally) - even the youngest are 10 years old now. The miles are growing and they will have issues - unfortunately with an M car, they're usually expensive.

Had mine 2 years and had to do the following:

Boot floor
Oil service x 2
Hydraulic chain tensioner
Head gasket
Tyres all round
Discs and pads
New folding mirror internals
New windscreen
Drivers side front arch replaced

The below are probably annoying costs of running a car which is 10 years old. I am sure that costs a bucket.

Boot floor
Hydraulic chain tensioner
Head gasket
Tyres all round
New folding mirror internals
New windscreen
Drivers side front arch replaced

The below are usual costs.

Oil service x 2 - Normal running costs
Discs and pads - Normal running costs

I am selling my S5 soonish as its a 2009 car with 36k on the clock. I don't like wasting money on replacement parts. I prefer to get newer cars in the hope nothing goes wrong!

they are annoying costs (and not inexpensive) but that is part of owning the car.
