F10 M5 depreciation
Discussion
Soper of Lincoln. I have to say they've been excellent. Very friendly and helpful, enjoyed every minute of dealing with them.
Pirellis seem fine to me, although I've not driven like maniacal unconscionable lunatic yet!
Depreciation is, I'm sure, appalling. But the feeling of getting in a car with effectively zero miles is, as they say, priceless.
Add to that the lack of mechanical running costs and it almost, with very liberal and exotic man maths, makes sense!

It's an emotive subject as the current depreciation when viewed against what owners have paid is actually fairly good, when viewed against List price the picture is of course not so good.
Also not helped by as others have said, a raft of Lease/CH cars with fairly basic spec hitting the market now as they come to the end of their 3yr leases. That said, these cars represent great value & still at £30-35k are only about 40-45% less than the original owners would have paid as they would have been around £60k new.

It's an extraordinary joy to be able experience such a car, be it new or used. One could debate the best ways to purchase such a thing long into the night, there really is no one way suits all. Try one for a weekend, throw caution to the wind and take ownership, or higher one. Better to try and know for sure than to wonder what if?
I think life's about the journey as much as the final destination, and what a lovely way to travel!

p.s. there's a very good chance this is just the delicious bottle of Merlot speaking

Would you say it's best to hold off for a few more years then?
Depends... age old question of greater upfront outlay for purchase price with more dep'n for a relatively fresh car or PAYG maintenance on a leggy £20k car. Having read your E39 posts from both cars I'm sure you know a thing or 2 about the latter! Guess it comes down to peace of mind... I do think prices across the whole market for sports cars/toys are firmer than they would have been if it were not for this seemingly indefinite low interest rate environment where people may as well enjoy the cash burning a hole in their bank accounts so curve may be shallower than the E60 where end of production was as we were coming out of the crisis + bork fears

Tbh, if they drop to around the £25k mark for a 2013 in a year or so then I'd be very tempted at that as it would take a lot less time to save up, and also I'd wear the depreciation as I'd intend on keeping it a while. But at the same time, the longer you keep a car, the higher the chance of a big bill. It really is a case of six of one, half a dozen of the other.
