Thanks guys!
Always wanted one - loving driving it, loving looking out the window every few minutes and seeing it!
I'm carrying on the Mondial/bmw Warrenty at the moment although it's 175 a month so wondering whether to risk it and build a war chest.
It's on 92k so umming ans aarrring on that one
Love this combo, I've had my E61 for just over 2 years.Always wanted one - loving driving it, loving looking out the window every few minutes and seeing it!

The warranty is a tricky one, mine is now £98 a month with a £250 excess, in the 2 years I've had the wiring loom into the boot replaced which was just under the excess so I just paid that, and it's just had a full sunroof replacement, which including labor was north of 6k I'm told. I could have just manually wound it shut and not used it I guess, haha.
At £175 a month, personally I'd squirrel the money to one side.
Also I suggest getting a nectar card & a Nectar Amex, oh and buy oil 20L at a time from opie
Much as I like them - one of the early adopters here on PH - the prices being asked for these things in no way reflect reality I tjonk 18mths ago I was offered a 87k miles car, which was the same spec as mine - full leather, TV, soft close doors, ski bag, active seats, blah, blah, new recent throttle actuators, aircon condenser and clutch - for £16k. I thought about it hard, but the idea that it could be stolen again did not appeal. Mine was reliable for the 2 years that I had it. However, there is no way I would run one without the BMW Warranty. At £175 a month before it even turns a wheel, £500 tax, comical insurance quotes and fuel consumption which makes even my X5 4.8i seem frugal, and asking prices in the mid-20s???
It is a special car, but really?

I think you'll find that the values curve follow the saloons based on the percentage premium they were over the saloon when new. Insurance for me is £435 pa fully comp with protected no claims (just renewed yesterday via A Plan).
For reference, i had a 2009 RS6 (v10, twin turbo) and it was dull in comparison to the M5 touring. The M5 is a car that needs to be driven, the Audi was just point and go when you wanted to press on.

I know it is a great car, I had one. It was stollen - I did not part with it through choice. All I am saying is that at nigh on 10yrs old the E61 M5 should be a lot cheaper. Back in 2004 I bought a very good 10yrs old E34 M5 Touring for £6.5k Whichever way you look at them mid 20s for car financially ineligible for the Mondial policy is bonkers. And the trouble starts now - actuators, bearings, clutch, vanos hose etc. They are complex cars which will go wrong simply because components are lifed.

I think you are arguing against the whole performance/specialist/classic car market, sense isn't always a factor!3 weeks in and on holiday up in Northumberland with some lovely driving roads.
Car has been faultless - cruised up here with 300 miles to a tank which is around 23/4mpg which I think is acceptable for a 500+ v10, incredibly comfy, swallowed all our gear and monsters big journeys without fuss.
Get to a nice road and your an 'm' button push from a serious driving tool.
Noise is beautiful, ride is stunning (compared to my e61 535d), steering is lovely
It gets a lot of attention from the 'right' people and almost none from the 'wrong' people!
Loving it about sums it up!
(Oh and insurance is the same as my 535d which wasn't cheap to tax either and only did 16mpg around town itself)

I've gone with the Warrenty for now at £184 per month but will cancel it once my trip is over - just didn't want the hassle of it dying on me up norf
Then I quess its hope and pray and build war chest time!
A lot of the stuff is DIY-able if you are handy with the spanners. GT1/TIS also widely available to buy so not all is lost. Only really scary stuff is the box - it could actually st itself. A friend just did that on his V10 engined / gearboxed Z3M Coupe race car. Selected two gears at the same time. Box is good for the scrap yard... How did that happen - I would have thought/hoped the software would prevent that sort of error?PS. 500+ BHP in a Z3 coupe - eff me - that must be a lively little thing.
