My '14 plate M5 is currently at my local BMW Centre for warranty work.

One fault is that the car repeatedly locks and unlocks itself when I am nearby with the key fob (the car has Comfort Access) - this has been diagnosed as a faulty door handle. Regrettably the parts are - as usual - on backorder, and I'm told may take up to a month to arrive.

Due to this issue my car has been left unlocked on a couple of occasions and I am eager for this not to be repeated while I wait for the part(s) - I'm not sure what my insurers stance would be if the car was stolen while 'unlocked'.

I have asked BMW if Comfort Access can be turned off in my vehicle (they're not sure it can), but they have instead offered to put me in a courtesy vehicle until the part becomes available. I don't really want to be paying £700ish p/m finance costs on my car while driving around in a 320d/520d - that seems like paying for a room at The Ritz only to find yourself moved into a Travelodge.

If Comfort Access can't be switched off (or, if this would not solve the immediate issue), what would be reasonable for me to expect?

What would you do?

Update: they're going to reprogram the car to disable Comfort Access.

Was this sorted? Had similar issues when I purchased my AUC car and hours of diagnostics led them to.... a new battery. I'm sceptical but we'll see...
