On the plus side, your warranty is going to cover £16k of repairs.

You will be out of pocket by £5k.

With no warranty, you would be looking to break the car and would have lost much more.

Personally, I think anyone running one of these without a warranty is plain nuts.
If you didn't have a Mondial warranty you wouldn't be getting a main dealer to fit a brand new engine. To have a used engine with new shells or have the old engine rebuilt would be about 6K or so. Not much different to prices for Porsche 996 engine rebuilds which have issues. Even back in the 1990'S I had a Sierra Cosworth that came with a receipt for an engine build from Graham Goode Racing for £10,500 that the previous owner had paid for, admittedly it was a bit special but none the less.

Its only about £1300 to have the shells replaced by someone like CPC engineering, less than the cost of clutch/flywheel replacement.

Lots of people do run these without warranty and don't suffer any major issues. Personally I prefer to have the warranty!

Do you know what sort of price Troy Jeup charges for the stroker engine?

Well good news BMW are putting in a good will gesture and an engine has come into stock alot sooner than expected. So new engine and clutch and should have it back next week!

But even with the good will and warranty its 8k. 8 thousand pounds!

£35k repair bill in total im not happy at all

How on earth did the bill get to £35K? What is the labour rate that's being applied? My dealer generally charges me the warranty rate (£65+VAT/hour) for most work rather than the standard £130+VAT per hour is my car is over 6 years old. Struggling to see where BMW applied any good will but happy to be enlightened!

I can't help but wonder if bearing material got into the VANOS components and that's why they failed. Then shortly thereafter the bearings themselves failed. And you're being charged for two repairs (first VANOS and then a new engine) due to one fault having occurred. Not very fair it would seem.

Sorry, why is it not covered? Because the car is only worth XYZ amount?

Yup; a bit earlier in the thread it's mentioned that the warranty claim can't be valued higher than what the purchaser paid for the car. And a Mondial warranty claim must be done through the dealer network so in the case of a new engine against an older car recently purchased an owner could be out of pocket.

Ouch, what about them paying out up to the value of the purchase? or did you choose to go the new engine route?
Basically you have a stumped up £24k all in correct?

So it went in for Vanos repair

iirc 4.2k for both banks

Diagnose the spun bearing, Engine removal £3.5k

New engine i was told around 21k

So that adds up to £28700 so an extra £7300 has been grabbed by something.

Warranty is paying out for 13200 which isnt correct anyway it should be 16200

Its mental. They wont entertain paying out for the car as thats what i asked first.

Its getting better. I now have a good will gesture on the vanos units that were fitted so thats knocked some more money off the bill now. Still dont have a final figure of what i need to pay yet. But ive told the dealership to chase Mondial and find out why im not getting the full value of the car out the warranty as near 3k is a good chuck that would bring down the bill get again.

So after 2months the engine is now fitted and running.

My bill is just under 6k for a new engine and new clutch. I was meant to collect yesterday but they have an issue with the box now the clutch is unable to adapt so now I've got to wait for diagnosis on that!

The mondial warranty if you look at the small print will only cover up to the cost of the car excluding vat they put on parts & labour.

So you buy a car for 15k - 12500 is the most you'll get from them in parts and labour

I've just paid up to continue with the BMW warranty for my zed 4 .
I got a quote from warranty direct who I've used historically ( with varied success) but that was £190 more than BMW !!!
Hope I don't need to call on it but price wise it made sense ?

Does that mean your warranty is now void OP as they (Mondial) have paid out the value of the car?

On the plus side, you've now got a M5 with a brand-new engine and clutch for £6k which should hopefully last, provided it's serviced and treated properly, for a very long time.

Nope I could take it away from the dealers and claim another 13k if needed
