No I'm bloody not.

The car might be priced to sell, it also might be at the top of the market, having recently traded an M5 with the same mileage I might be able to give a view.

quite amusing, but I also have an F430 and e46 M3 track toy, as the Mrs would say " you have an unlimited budget for your cars but are a total tight ass for anything else.."

At that mileage possible it already had new pads or they are on their way out, probably discs are ok. Noticed my mileage to next service is now dictated by the miles left on the rear pads. So perhaps if the miles to next service is high you don't have to worry too much just yet - a visual check is always the best though obviously.

Front discs 510 each/ Rear discs 299 each - Full Set 1619
Front pads 390 (set)/ Rear pads 146 (set)- Full set 536
All plus fitting ........ (!!)

These prices are insane! I had my front brake pads/discs replaced on my Audi S5 (V8) for £200. All brembo parts! There's a small difference in costs!!!

Agree - never trust the I drive wear indicator. For a start its an estimate based on driving style amongst other things. The actual pads thickness is only a very coarse input to the estimate.

But if they do need doing, who would ever buy the brakes from BMW? Asking for a shafting!

There's no need for BMW to fit the brakes either, they're not on the compulsory service items record, so fit them yourself or get a local indy to do it. Steel brakes haven't changed for donkeys years, so if you've changed brakes in your younger years then believe it or not they're still the same now! And they come to bits easier these days too.

Personally i'm a lot happier doing my own brakes than some spotty oik ex-kwikfit fitter under time pressure. "specially trained" my arse.

If you've got a modicum of tech ability then download the workshop BMW software on your laptop and with a £15 lead ethernet-ODB do all the diagnostics and service resets etc your self for free.

Take back the power!

They are massive, probably 3 time that size of an average pad.

£250 is a bargain for OE pads (not saying they're great, but genuine OE will always be a premium price and give good general performance and low noise). Perfectly good Pagid OE spec replacements are available for £140 a set from ECP etc. I wouldnt hesitate to use those is lieu of BMW pads.

Stopping a 2 ton M5 from 180+mph take a lot of brakes.

The same pads are fitted for comp pack models and ones with lifted speed limiters in Europe, so they still have to work at higher speeds than the limited measly 155 we have!

I think ecp also list textar which I thought were oe supplier ? We have an M5 and the idrive says the rears have 3200 left on them but there looks plenty of pad left.
