Heavily considering M3 ownership, starting with this car.

Any thoughts or information would be great—only 1 MOT is showing up on the Government's MOT History checker.

Not sure if it has EDC or what options etc...
No mention of EDC on it's build sheet, copied below.
It's currently SORN, as you probably know.
Must have been on a private plate at some point, maybe spend £1.49 on a basic HPI check, should give you the private plate but if that's been transferred not sure what it will show for MOT history.

Many thanks. I knew it was SORN and apparently the dealer has the V5 trade slip. All 3 keys etc.

I will definitely be paying for a full HPI check, just wanted to see other's opinions here as well.

'Yours' seems okay priced, but if you have budget over 20k, an approved used car would give you a peace of mind of a warranty and this one though a little older is 9k less miles.

you might find this US video useful, if you are beginning on your search/learning about these cars

Now that you can get decent examples for close to £20k, these are a huge amount of car for a relatively modest outlay.

That's very true I suppose... that one doesn't appear to have EDC? (I'm not sure how much it matters). Approved used definitely has appeal, I must say. Not sure what the warranty covers though. And would warranty be on top of the purchase price of that car? Might give them a ring.

AUC warranty is very extensive, even more than the BMW Insured Warranty which you can buy if you purchase outside of the AUC network. But in that case, you can't claim for the first month unless you are 'taking over' someone else's warranty in the case of a private sale.

To give you an idea, £1635 with a 100£ excess would be the cost of buying a BMW Insured warranty on the first car you highlighted, costs go up substantially over 60k miles!

With an AUC car the more extensive warranty with no excess is included so there's value added there, in my opinion.

Cars I've tested were without EDC, I found the ride great. this is a sports car after all wink I found it better ride than my 335i on 19s rims and I mean non runflat. so it wouldn't bother me to have no EDC.

Thanks, will watch it with a coffee now.

This one has more options and is probably nicer interior wise (heated seats are missing from the other one it seems?), and even though it's 65k miles, if it has warranty I should buy with confidence?

I've only had good experiences when buying AUC but 65k is higher than I would want, and 22k£ seems a lot for such miles; also if you keep beyond a year and buy a warranty it will be very expensive. Maybe, if you did go for it, as part of your negotiations get it warrantied for a the second year.

Sytner seem to have this one, at their Cardiff Branch. for 3 k more you get a newer car and less than 1/2 the miles. You do lose spec, but for me heated seats is the only thing I need. wink

I bought my first for 39k in 2008, 50% retained value after 8 years is superb.

Which one at the Cardiff branch?

I would plan on keeping my next car for a number of years.
This one. Assuming it's not only black you want

And.... it just sold. frown
I am not surprised, it was a decent price.

I don't have one, my mileage has shot up, change of job, so that stymied me. But I've test driven a few and have kept an eye on prices.

I nearly pressed the trigger in Feb, £23k for a 08/2008 manual with 32k miles on sale, Rybrook Worcester (it was Alpine White and I couldn't live with that) and was close on same price and mileage (but a 09 with new I drive) Silverstone @ Stratstone Chesterfield but it had an oil leak in the past, they were arsey about a part ex price so I quit negotiations.

These were good AUC prices in my opinion, compared to what was on the AUC database and outside because I wanted a warranty and the private / non franchised dealerships were not much lower, in price if at all.

If, like me, you want a warranty and value low mileage then I think the £25k Cardiff Sytner car could be a prospect.

I just did a query on A/T for

manual coupe, 2008 onwards, under 35k miles ,l and up to £25k and there were only 3 and one was CAT d!

Found another potential candidate:

Apparently warranty can be transferred.

http://www.autotrader.co.uk/classified/advert/2016...

Any thoughts?
A yearly warranty can be transferred directly, i.e. you get the remaining months at no cost.

If it's on a monthly warranty you can set up your own warranty, within 10 days of the current owner cancelling their direct debit, and not have the usual restriction of no claims in the first month which would apply if you took a fresh warranty out.

best colour combo, inmho, but it struck me as expensive for a 5 plus owners private sale with decent but not attractively low mileage. Would need a lot of checks, on reasons for change of ownership and with the private plate can't see MOT history.

Paid £27k for a saloon from my dealer two years ago. Probably still worth £23k today. Amazing!

Although having said that. Buying it is one thing. Paying to keep it on the road is another. There's been one month where it cost me over £3k to just keep it on the road as the extended warranty, tyres, Tax, MOT and service came at once, lol.

Im back in the market for another E92 M3 myself.

I've plumped for a well specced, low mileage AUC Competition Pack.

I really can't see these cars losing much money over 2 years and 20k.

Almost makes you wonder if the warranty is worth it... right?
From what i've read everything that fails on these costs at least a grand. So I think it's good money for peace of mind. I like the idea of just throwing the keys at BMW and they sort it out. Unlike a 3rd party warranty where it's a 3-way conversation and them rejecting everything.

True. Decent advice.

How about DCT or manual for yourself?
DCT all the way. Completes the car.

My bank two throttle actuator was replaced today. Replaced under warranty at a cost of about £1200 which is what the warranty cost me smile

Had any luck OP? I'm on the search myself, but very spec-dependent:

E90 (saloon)
LCI
Black/Grey/Red
EDC
Don't mind which wheels
Preferably at least HK audio.

If I can't find one then I might settle for a Competition Pack E92. biggrin
