The only thing that is going to stop the M2 from the usual M car route i.e. dealer discounts etc is if they say they are stopping production after X units. The discounts might not be as big as those seen on the M3/M4 but they will come. My reasoning is as follows:

- there will be some people with orders for this car (like me) who might be thinking about jumping ship and buying something else. Most petrolheads are not very patient and cannot wait months just to be told they will get a car in another X months. This will mean people dropping out of the queue and the demand that initially seemed high will drop.
- I see about 25 cars on autotrader now and some have been hanging around for months. I have also seen the premiums on these dropping as those who saw an opportunity are finding it harder to shift the cars. So you can now pick up one from £48k without haggling on price.
- Due to the above situation those who are in it purely to make money might think twice about waiting for delivery and again drop out of the queue - reducing demand further.
- New road tax rules coming into place in next year might also put some people off from buying new if they can get a used car for less than list with next to no miles on it early next year. I know that is tempting from my perspective since you can actually get finance at low rates outside of BMW Finance.

All of the above should and will in my view lead to some incentives on the M2 start to trickle through within 6 months. That doesn't mean it is a bad car, I think it is brilliant. So will hold on to my order for now, whilst looking at alternatives on a daily basis with my man maths calculator in hand.

Congrats to those who have got one already.

Sums it up for me that.

Yes I would agree. I wouldn't be surprised if there wasn't a small discount mid-December...hopefully.

Makes a lot of sense.

I wish my slot would hurry up and appear, but if it goes on much longer I'll be that impatient petrolhead you refer to.

Several M2's for sale near me at high end independents, all less than 1000 miles, asking price of around £48k. There's also one at a main dealer, 2,500 miles asking £51k.

There's a big-spec blue car for sale privately near me (Nottingham) that's been for sale for I bet 6+ wks now. Surprised to see it still for sale. Looks really nice and quite tempted to jump in one for 6-12 months but think they are going to come down to about 45k in Winter (IMO).

Collecting mine next Wednesday. It took almost exactly 12 months from when I placed the deposit. Yay! Now I get to drive it around on salty roads.
