Are BMW M2 actually changing hands at a premium ?
Discussion
It will be interesting to see what the market looks like in 12 months if BMW don't ramp up production, if all the "enthusiasts" who want one are have taken delivery or bought second hand how much of a market remains for undiscounted new cars? If the waiting list dwindles to standard lead times the M2 will then find its natural price point.
My M2 is due to go into build any day now (after an 11 month wait) and I'm looking forward to getting it and using it as my daily driver and I don't care what the second hand value is today or in X years time, I just want a fun car to drive that I can take to the track occasionally. I'm buying a car, not a fking ISA.
If people are so obsessed with depreciation then they shouldn't buy new cars, or maybe they shouldn't buy cars at all!

I wonder how many people actually ordered an M2 for there own personal use and not just to try and make a quick buck on a planned resale.
There does seem to be a few people around now with a (change of circumstances) as the delivery date for there car approaches.
I think the waiting list for these cars will shrink as the chances for making money on them looks less likely in the near future.
Spot on I think. There does seem to be a few people around now with a (change of circumstances) as the delivery date for there car approaches.

Well I ordered one as my daily driver.. am I in the minority now ? Let's not be too cynical.. surely some people jumped on the bandwagon to try to make a few k's.. but probably most people just fell in love with the looks / attitude and preferred it the mass produced M3/4 which was not getting much love from the press. The perceived rarity adding to the mix. I have to say am now impatient to try mine which arrived on UK shores this week.. so bound to be delivered soon I would hope.
You might be in the minority, you might not. Hopefully you'll enjoy it. But I think there must have been some who thought they could make a quick buck, and perhaps didn't.

My sentiments and position exactly. I'm looking forward to mine showing up in October.02joe said:
ive been offered a 50k car at 4% off list. brand new unregistered. very high spec.... i am trying to justify it in my mind. I feel like I should have said yes, but I'm not sure I am ready to spend that kind of money! Not bought a car for more than 10k before!
That's mental, what's the story behind that? I've not heard of any dealer discounts at all for the M2 although I spoke to a couple of people selling delivery miles cars who were selling under list....02joe said:

Tends to suggest the M2 market is starting to move towards normality; I suspect more sensible delivery times (so 10 to 12 weeks from order rather than waiting a year) and modest discounts will be the norm in 12 months time. Still not sure I see discounts getting to M3/M4 levels but I think they'll be there and quite possibly at a bit more than the 4% you've been offered; however, if you want the car a 4% discount doesn't seem too bad a deal as to date most purchasers won't have got anything! There does appear to be a trend of orders getting cancelled and cars becoming available so, to return to the original subject of this thread, anyone who paid a premium over list is probably feeling a bit sick at the moment (especially if they did so relatively recently).
