Had a call earlier saying my car (M4) has to go back for a new diff. Apparently will lose the car for a couple days due to the recall which is a pain as I am an hour from the dealer anyway. Anyone else had this problem? Or even know what's actually wrong with it?

Make sure the dealer has the parts in to do the work, once they have your car they cannot let you take it away again until the issue has been fixed for safety reasons according to this link.

They are also apparently short of parts for the fix.

You should be safe as BMW have identified the problem.

Some cars were fitted with the faulty diffs before BMW realised but if yours is still in assembly now you should be ok I would guess.
