Hi there,

Just thought I'd reach out on a lease car I returned last week; in case a fellow piston header gets the chance to buy it...

12500 miles / 3 years old. Pretty mint condition... Or so I thought....

Inspector noted a rear bumper ripple post repair (correct) - refer BMW FS.
Front bumper dent - greater than 10mm = £115 - priced on the spot.
Missing first M service - well; not signed in service book - but car computer has it.
Service indicator illuminated - BMW FS To Review
- could be interesting. Car dash seeks a service within August and 2300 miles. I returned on 31 Aug.

I'll miss the big m5.

Let me know if anyone what's to know anything about the car. Should auction shortly. BMW offered it to me for £35k.

Paulo....

Interesting.

My M5 is going back and being inspected in two weeks.

33000 miles and I'd say it's mint fo the age and mileage however it will be interesting to see the reaction of the inspector.

I've noted down the following

All tyres are legal
One tiny bit of curb rash on one wheel (about 5mm on one wheel)
Stone chip on one wheel on the inner grey painted surface which I've painted as best I can
Some stone chips to the front
Tiny mark (looks like a stone chip) in rear bumper where my wife knocked a camera lense against it, tiny and painted
No dents, dings or scratches anywhere else
Inside as new.
No service lights on and serviced in accordance with BMW and car recommendations. I have already made contact with BMW FS to confirm I don't have any invoices but services including the RIS are shown on the idrive and apparently that's OK.
Next service due in 4000 miles and inspections due in November - again BMW FS have confirmed as long as no services are overdue then you are not liable. Not sure in your example if an inspection is due in August and it's handed back in August if that's technically due?

Now let's see what they say about mine!

By the way, did you take any images as evidence of the condition prior to handover, that's exactly what I intend to do.

Yeah. I did. I have the 20" winter tyres etc etc.
- a service was looking. Brake discs In a few thousand miles.

Wasn't sure that £35k was that much of a deal.

But

It was time for something new. M2.

I'm intrigued to know where she ends up.

12,500 miles and £35k not a deal on an M5?

I've not looked at the market, and I know they lose a lot of money, but that's a barely run in car at what, 50% off list?!

I'm no expert.

But I know of a similar mileage car selling at not more retail...

So no; it wasn't for me. Not with a looming service. Tyres ageing etc etc.

They're normally sold (in the first instance) at closed auctions. Would be interesting to know what it goes for but the general consensus seems to be that prices are higher than you'd think.

Just had my discharge letter ....

Despite the £115 bumper damage; no charge.

No mention of the service either.

Zero cost from BMW.

Happy days. Thanks BMW FS.

If its a lease return from BMW they will accept some pretty big damage to paintwork etc. I was told that they would accept gold ball size damage without charging. My tyres were also JUST on the legal limit. No charges on anything

If you are returning to a lease company then thats another matter!

Inspected and given a total clean sheet.

Nice guy (Paul) and if you are in the SE he may well look at yours if returning in the future.

How on earth can they charge for tyres or servicing if it's not overdue?

They only charge for tyres if below the legal limit.

Servicing has always been a contentious point but most only charge if overdue.

In my case, service was due, not carried out; and not charged by BMW finance.
- my friends return, service 5 days overdue. Not charged either.

I wonder if other finance companies would do same...

According to the guy who picked my car up BMW are very relaxed, others not so.

Mercedes are apparently very strict and enforce their terms - BMW do say particularly on an 'M' if a service is overdue they will charge and will ask for funds should it affect the value of the car.

Clearly that may not always happen.

How is she? Loved that car.

Was an amazing deal at the time. £3k down. And £600 a month.

That car hasn't covered a lot of miles in its life...
