Occasionally I've noticed a loud crack from the exhaust while changing up in manual mode, it's normally 2nd to 3rd. It does not do it every time.

Does anyone know what the conditions or parameters that cause this to happen? There are times when I don't want this to happen, and then there are those times when you're going through a tunnel biggrin

Yes it is normal and with a bit of practice it can be done on demand. Once everything is warmed up I find that it happens on not quite WOT at about 5-5.5k revs. Sometimes from 3rd to 4th too but the speed is obviously much higher.

Mine did exactly this for the first time today, sounded like a rifle crack. I shall be trying to repeat it on a daily basis!

I've never yet been able to replicate this on demand as seems to happen at varying points through the rev range & not in ever gear.

That's my experience also. I've just been out for a run, not once did I get the 'crack'.
I'd love to know how to replicate it on demand.

Seems to occur all the time for me :

Between 2,500 rpm and 4,500 rpm

Gear changes 1st to 2nd or 2nd to 3rd

Throttle position at least 30/40% depressed (during the gear change too of course)

Using what settings?

Mode 3 gearchange and sport plus throttle. The hard one is getting the backfire when lifting off sharply in 3rd gear.

Is that in manual or automatic?

I have a junction on the way home and I could always create the crack and my knack was to approach the junction having almost coasted for the last 100m or so, stop at the junction and then turn left and mash the throttle.

2nd to 3rd created a crack every time without fail.

I then slowed down for the next junction about 300m along the road and having turned right mash the throttle again and I always got the crack.

From memory I changed gear at about 5000 or so, not at the red line.

I now have a 50d and miss that frown

Manual, in setting 2 with engine setting on Sport.

Tried it again last night and can do it even on 25% throttle opening with the revs between 3,000 and 4,000 rpms

does the exhaust effect this - I have only heard this from time to time with the standard exhaust - is it better with a MPE ?

That doesn't show the crack due to a gear change confused

From second to third once it does it it's a great noise yes

I seem to be able to do it on demand too!

Short shifting just as full boost comes in most the time! Im in MDM mode alot of the time doubt that would make any difference but worth a try!

Does anyone actually use anything other than manual mode 3??

MDM mode too, wait for the wheels to spin up in 2nd then flick to 3rd about 4-5k, crack every time...

I do have the "exhaust meister" control so I can keep the silencer flaps permanently open (rather than at high revs / full throttle only), then you get lots more subtle pops and mini cracks too.

My new CP car did it in auto today. Gearchange on 2 blobs and sport throttle.
