I want to find out about the origins of this type of rally car, specifically the engine and the paint job. The reason I ask is that my neighbours (two brothers, I'm no longer in touch with) used to rally one, an M-engined 2002 with more or less exactly the same paint job, white with green stripes, they also used to drive about in a replica 2002 tii rally car also painted white with green stripes - circa 1977 to 1983.

I did see some old cine footage of it rallying their mum had, but from what I can remember while the sound was glorious going up and down our deadend road, the dogleg gearbox was its weakest link and horrendously expensive to fix. I used to visit and get to strap up the belts and try the helmet and intercom, while they were waiting for some part for the gearbox. Dragging up memories of my childhood here, but I've never really heard about this M-engined 2002 - remember it had an M-badge on the engine, but thats about all.

Of course I could be imagining it, but I don't remember it being a turbo and it did have an M-Power engine badge, in the days before you'd casually add a M badge to anything.

Did try to google this to no avail and this post was totally ignored on General Gassing, so I thought I'd try here.

I don't know anything about the car but my first guess on the engine front would be an S14, but at the dates you remember presumably the S14 didn't exist at that point....the first production S14 would have been around 1986 ish.....

ETA..car looks great though!
