I was considering getting an M5 number plate as they are pretty cheap at £250 including transfer cost from the DVLA website. However it occurred to me that one of the things I've enjoyed about this car is its Qcar quality. I was even considering debadging it. I love the way most people don't notice it, but people who appreciate cars do. Will an M5 number plate ruin that, or would most people still be oblivious?

Do whatever you want. It's your car. Personally, I wouldn't have an M5 plate as I like that fact the most people don't see it as a fast car, therefore I don't get tailgated by idiots wanting to race me.

Why not lol (speaking as someone who got an M5 plate for the same reason as it was cheap)

My last M5 came with an M5 plate. I would have preferred it to be on the original 2002 plate, but it didn't really matter to me. I certainly wouldn't put any value on the plate itself.

Yes, it's too obvious. There's a badge on it that says "M5" if you feel the need to advertise what it is.

I ran it for 2 years . Just sold it . It now has 125k on the clock and still pulled like a train ( especially towing the racecar ) .

Fantastic! It's definitely a good one, and certainly felt stronger than my first one. Sounds like you enjoyed it too. smile

Depends on the plate but some look ok. I like losing the year too. Your call anyway.

Most people won't even know what an M5 is tbh. I have mates who like nice cars and they don't have a clue about M3,M5,M6 they think its the same as M sport diesel!
My neighbour who drives a BMW thought my initials were SMG, I like it anyway!

I use one, don't see the problem tbh, most private plates mean nothing to everyone unless your the owner.

Back when I had my E34 M5, I bought "M5 BHW" for £250 from DVLA. Sold it with the car (rather than transferring it to my E39 M5).

I was a bit gobsmacked to see it afterwards being advertised for something like £4k - not sure that it actually sold for anything like that amount, though. It's still on some sort of M5, somewhere.

I had one on mine, and yes I found it a bit too obvious (came with the car).

I would say the M5 is fairly discrete to most, that's the point of it. An M5 plate was a bit too 'look at me!' for me anyway.
