Thinking about trading in my E70 X5 and getting an F15. The E70 isn't "that good" on MPG so wondering what the current F15 is like ?

Does anyone have a 40d or 50d ? Be interested what it does in general use and also on the motorway.

Cheers!

I've got a 3.OD M Sport. I'm averaging in the low 30's roughly....based on I don't pay that much attention to it and just look at the in car trip every so often. That is based on mainly driving in ECO mode and driving at "average" speeds. If you do a lot of stop start driving it's a bit juicy, but anything big and heavy will be.
From memory the 4.0D and 5.0D were (according to official figures) approximately 1 or 2mpg worse on the combined cycle.

I've got a new 50d and I'm currently averaging 26mpg.

To be fair it's two weeks old and only done 600 miles. On my way to Heathrow this afternoon I averaged 30mpg.

Coming from an F10 M5 it's figures I've not seen for a while.

By the way, lovely, lovely cars :yes;

Go and have a look at the Sytner site, they've got a bucket load of new X5's for sale but be aware some are 2016 spec, 2017 with the new iDrive etc.

Hi,

I've had F15's with 30 and 40d engines. They both return early 30's average but if anything the 40d's were 1-2 mpg better, maybe they are working less hard? My use is about 35k a year, mixture of motorways and local running around including towing a double horse trailer. At a steady 80 it would happily deliver mid to upper 30's. One of these had mile ages over 10k though so mpg should improve. Great cars!

How can you tell which is which spec/mode year?

Also what differences are there on latest model?

I think 2017 model cars have a touchscreen iDrive and Apple CarPlay....not sure what else!

Very helpful on the MPG's Gents. Only time I've seen 30mpg is when the cruise control is on in a 50mph roadworks. I average 23mpg now but when I lived in London that was less than 20mpg.

Subtle changes and the iDrive being the most obvious and also the best.

The new iDrive 5 is a world away from the previous version.

Interior light changes, bits of fake leather being thrown in for good measure etc.

Other than that the same.

Is your E70 a 30d or 40d? mine is an LCI 40d, and is averaging above 30mpg (just), albeit I don't live in London, but commuter belt. Goes to show what the heavy body does, when the wife X3 equivalent does quite a few mpg more, and it spends it life pottering around town

Mine is an SD (early car) so effectively a 40d but with a six speed box. The eight speed introduced on the LCI made a massive difference I think.

I have a 2015 40d M-sport, i am very impressed with the economy of the car at approx 36-38mpg . I have an 8 mile commute which would give me 44mpg in my old f11 520d (and 18-19mpg in my CLK63!!)
Motorway speeds it will deliver 37-39mpg
heavy traffic as little as 29mpg

My wife's old e53 3.0d gave a long term average of 26mpg....

M50d, 8,000 miles in getting 28MPG round the doors, not hanging around. Start stop traffic seems to be the killer.
When trying to be more relaxed and chilled can get this up to 35MPG when roads a little quieter, but soon get sick of tootling about.

Yep, 2.4T of car takes alot to get going once stopped and is the real killer for mpg. Eco pro seems to add c2mpg but feels like driving with the handbrake on!

I average around 26 mpg (F15 M5.0D)

Buy an 5.0d to go fast and for its overtaking ability.

I had a 2008 SD and replaced it with a 2014 40d, I generally find that the new car is 20-25% more efficient in all circumstances, typically I get/got:
21mpg v 26mpg around town
28mpg v 36 mpg on a motorway journey

Economy mode seems to help, in sports mode it seems to select a lower gear making it much more responsive but uses a lot more fuel, around town I find economy mode to be much more refined and the silence from start/stop to be quite relaxing.
