I've the 299bhp 535d so pre LCI and its official combined is 46mpg (the replacement 535d 317bhp is 50+mpg) I drive mine with no regard to economy (it is redlined every day as I enjoy the power). Doing that I get40-42mpg on my commute winter v summer being the spread. Longer runs I'm into the 45-49mpg territory.

It's a hugely impressive engine no question and each iteration just gets better and better more power more torque and better economy. Only the other day I looked back at the review of the original 272bhp 535d that had an official combined of 34mpg on a 54 reg car. Mine is a 60 reg car and it's 46mpg the 63 reg car is 50+mpg it's really amazing.

Range too is great your into 700miles on each fill which is nice.
